He’s still only 16. He can’t sign a professional contract until his birthday.
does that stop him from changing shirt numbers?
Probably not, at least I don’t think it’s a league rule. I know we have a few club rules that are meant to keep the younger players grounded.
I am seeing that the listing for the second game vs Athletic (8pm) is U21’s. Is this correct or are they both regular squad with two different starting lineups?
Don’t think it’s been confirmed. I would have expected it the other way around to be honest.
Just saw that we are actually playing two preparation games this evening: the first at 4pm and the second at 8pm. I suppose the fringe players will play the first one, and the main players will start the second?
Typically you’ll have the first team go first so that if the pitch deteriorates its the kids who have to deal with it.
It’s also better to have the kids fresh and ready to come in to sub someone from the first team if needed and then adjust plans for the U21 starting line up than have your best kids play a full game, or however many minutes they’re ready for at this stage of pre-season, and then find yourself needing to call on some kids in the second game and not have any left to turn to without risking them.
Alisson Becker will not feature in either of today’s pre-season friendlies at Anfield
I’m guessing the second game will be more first-XI focused?
Yeah I sort of thought this, it’s an Afternoon weekday game.
2 left backs? Looks like Alexis is getting the subtle hint from Arne to up his game..
My god, that back line
I wonder who is playing RB?
Actually, the big players will be split in two. That’s quite astonishing, given that we are almost at the start of the new season now.
Probably Stephenson, played there in the previous one.
I assumed he was CB as he’s been asked to play there in preseason as well
We’ve been using Tsimi as a CB in the last couple, so assume him and checks notes Fuck Knows are the CBs…
Maybe Jones will be RB like Szobo was in the closed-doors game?
Nice clear bat signal to Crystal Palace that we’re going to have to pay ~40m for Guehi.
Looking at the first line-up, this isn’t true. It’s just Mac and Robertson among the ‘big boys’ in there. So, it’s the second game who will feature most of the stars.
Big Mac and the little fries - great name for a band
