Liverpool Season 2022-23

Becoming a common phrase that… “one of the worst under Klopp”

Was said by many after Brentford too…Napoli as well.

Our structure in the first half was weird today.

We started off the ball defending in a 3-4-1-2 (which we can do at times, we did the same against some games off the top of my head, PSG at home and Real in Paris), but played a 4-diamond-2 when in possession with Thiago in the #10 spot.

Did we really think that it was a good idea to have Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at the moment operating in a deeper zone than Thiago? Really? Even if our “plan” today was obviously more of a counter attacking one.

But horrible performance, it was like we couldn’t even get close to duels. And then so disconnected in possession.

Nah, this is next level for me. In some of those games at least we did some things right. Today it was like we didn’t even come to the match.

This is definitely the worst this season and one of the worst/arguably the worst under his tenure.

Meh, performances were all the same shit in the games we’ve lost.

I actually value Brighton for being one of the better sides in the league so you have to credit them as well.

Every game is different.

I’m not taking opponents into consideration now, just plain simple Liverpool’s performance on the day.

Liverpool’s next 10 fixtures:

• Wolves [A] - FA Cup
• Chelsea [H]
• Wolves [A]
• Everton [H]
• Newcastle [A]
• Real Madrid [H] - Champions League
• Crystal Palace [A]
• Manchester United [H]
• Bournemouth [A]
• Real Madrid [A] - Champions League

We need to find some form fast.

If we win more than 3 I would be surprised

Real Madrid are getting torn apart by Barca right now. They are beatable.Only if our team wasn’t so dead.

Every team is beatable.

The issue is we’re easily beatable.

Maybe both of our levels dropped, what we did in the last few years was the sort of level peak Real and Barca used to have, about 10 years ago.

Arsenal in the top 4 is not surprising, but doing so well so far it. Newcastle doing better is not surprising, but being also this solid/good is.

United improved also. City and Liverpool will both have to respond (if not this season, then next), although when I see performances, there’s more work here with us.

Is Arteta the new Simeone?

In all seriousness though, I would say that this is probably the price we had to pay for last season. While it’s a shame we couldn’t make it count, I’d say for me, it was worth it. I had a really good time not just from watching us last season, but also the thrill of knowing that we had a chance of doing the almost-impossible. Probably also why I’m more sanguine about this season than most.

That said however, I’m wondering if this is the end of the supposed advantage that City had over us with a lighter pre-season, and whether they’ll be dragged down to our depths shortly.

One thing that I didn’t get from Klopp tonight.

We know Matip is technically gifted, but he never ever played LCB for us, not even once. Cool, that’s how it is.

So, with Virgil out and Matip & Konate being our first choice partnership now (which needs to build some understanding together), Ibou is the one who got the LCB spot alongside Matip.

Why did we play Konate at RCB and Gomez at LCB tonight? And then when bloody Phillips came on, he went to LCB and we moved Konate to RCB?

think back to Gomez in his first season with us, deputized at LB. he can play that side.

Yeah, I know. That’s not my point.

4 games in the next 28 days.

Hope we’ll have Bobby and Virgil back for Brighton and then we can finally start to turn this shitty season around.

Personally I’m having a good feeling that things will look much better for us after the Newcastle game.
