Liverpool v Chelsea (ELC Final 27/2/22 4.30pm) , Thanks Kepa & Tuchel

I often wonder whether there is an algorithm that could tell you what the best strategy is. How many times should you dive left or right and how many times to stay upright. And, do the players get told beforehand where to shoot so as to focus their minds. ,

I donā€™t like VAR at all but the only subjective part of this for offside decisions is where the vertical line is drawn on each player. The fact where the line is drawn is done in conjunction with someone from Hawkeye and not just the incompetent officials makes me feel more confident with the process than anything else VAR is used for.

Iā€™ve given up worrying about what it looks like to the naked eye. Technology can account for the camera angle better than our brains can and it has been shown time and time again it can do this and show you something completely different from what your brain tells you from the picture you have available.

The image isnā€™t great but I doubt theyā€™re looking at this single angle and at this kind of resolution. It looks like theyā€™ve drawn Lukakuā€™s line from where his short sleeve shirt ends which is entirely correct. Iā€™ve seen Chelsea fans saying theyā€™ve drawn it from his bicep or his elbow but it looks about right to me. The lines we see on TV are also thicker than what theyā€™re using to make the decision too.

I hate that they judge these offsides to the millimetre but weā€™ve been on the other end of these calls and had to accept it. We should just be pleased itā€™s gone our way this time. Iā€™m also pretty sure the linesman flagged so even without VAR heā€™d have still been given offside.

Soon, Kloppo will run out of digits to count.

Would have been a travesty had we not won that. We were sloppy for the first 10 minutes of both halves and it was pretty even on chances but apart from that we totally dominated play.
Kelleher and Diaz were both fantastic with Fabinho and the 2 CBā€™s vying for the 3rd MOTM choice. What a signing Diaz looks, must be an absolute nightmare to play against.
Chelsea resorted to their usual shithousery with constant feigning of injuries but the lads never let it affect them.
Great of Tuchel to bring on Kepa to not save a single penalty and then blast his own into orbit. What a cunt he is with his gamesmanship in the shoot-out and what a fucking coward Atwell is to allow him to do it on every single penalty. What was Atwell saying to him while all this was going on? Heā€™s the fucking referee and just made a complete fool of himself in front of millions with his weakness.
I still donā€™t understand why Matipā€™s goal was disallowed. Iā€™m assuming it was for a foul by Virgil but thatā€™s complete nonsense, if thatā€™s a foul then every corner and free-kick into the box should be blown for regardless of the ball ending up in the net or not.
That Atwell can call this a foul and not call a foul for Cresswellā€™s assault on Henderson at West Ham tells you all you need to know about him. Heā€™s another fucking cheat along with Atkinson, Taylor, Tierney and Kavanagh, the list continues to grow.
Anyway, up the 9 times League, Milk Cup, Rumbelows Cup, Carabao Cup winning Reds!! (and any Iā€™ve forgotten).

I havenā€™t watched enough penalty shootouts, but both Kepa and Kelleher guessed the direction right 4 times each which seems a rather low percentage. On the face of it the chance of either direction is 50-50, but to me, a penalty shootout in a cup final and I expect players to resort to what they feel most comfortable in and so Iā€™d expect them to guess the direction a bit better than 50% based on each penalty shooters prior experience. It didnā€™t happen last night. I have a feeling both teams, knowing how tight every game has been between us recently, was at least contemplating this could go to penalties so perhaps there was a bit more practice on this than normal and trying to psych each other out.

Several of our penalties were belted into the top corner which are pretty much un-saveable. We have to be super pleased with how each of our players dealt with it. Origiā€™s probably the closest to being saved?

Yep each ground has a full calibration of the cameras so all the vertical and horizontal perspectives are accounted for. Of course its impossible to be 100% accurate and I donā€™t know what the accuracy level is but I think its a fuckload better than the shitty media-supplied camera angle coming from the fucking roof.

By the time it came to penalties I had dinner to take care of. I was in and out of the kitchen for each kick and was in a right fucking mess. How on earth they could remain so calm and clinical is beyond me. My legs were like jelly just watching it !

I saw Salah try to say something to Jorginho as he came to take his penalty. I think he started saying something then thought better of it. Kepa after the refusal to come off for that game comes across as a wanker so I dont really have any sympathy for him. And its poetry that they probably stood a much better chance with the behemoth in goal.

Thereā€™s discussion of it in the VAR thread, and the opinion is that it wasnā€™t a foul but that Virgā€™s impeding of James was enough to limit his capacity to reach Mane. Had Virg been onside the goal would have stood so it wasnā€™t enough contact as such to warrant a free kick to Chelsea but was interfering with Chelseaā€™s ability to defend and therefore called offside on Virg. Still pretty soft

Didnā€™t we hire a psychologist or something for free kicks? I wonder if this is us reaping the rewards from that hiring?

Jota was the closest to being saved. To blast it down the center at that stageā€¦ Kelleher got closer to saving some of those penalties.

While Konate during his penalty looked rattled and he clearly wasnt comfortable

Thatā€™s insane. Itā€™s either a foul or itā€™s not a foul, whether VVD was on or off shouldnā€™t make any difference.

Not sure I agree with the call, but it is logical enough. If he is offside, the goal stands if the offside position is irrelevant, but is wiped if the offside player is involved with play. Same principle as screening the keeper but not touching the ball.

I was so happy that we got the pens were taken at the Liverpool end, and Milly won the coin toss for taking penalties first as well. Every little bit helps!

Dearie me. Half this forum are a bunch of big girlā€™s blouses.

Player A looked at Player B the wrong way. Player C only put 3 kisses in his Valentineā€™s card, whereas Player D put 7.

After the Mo and Mane spat a few years back, youā€™se lot woulda flogged one of em for a haā€™penny for ā€œteam harmonyā€.

Weā€™ve got Klopp in charge, and he wonā€™t tolerate a fallout if FSG forgets to give out a birthday cake

Kepa the keeper should be included in the MOTM poll.
He would win it hands dĢ¶oĢ¶wĢ¶nĢ¶ and legs all over the place. :slightly_smiling_face: :upside_down_face:

Iā€™m feeling similar. I would be outraged if it the roles were flipped and wasnā€™t given, which to me ultimately means it was probably the right call.

Proper cup final. Boys must be knackered and hopefully get a nice rest today minus some cardio to expel whatever was put into the body last night :joy::joy::joy:

Thatā€™s never a foul in a million years

You are quite right it wasnā€™t a foulā€¦but he was offside and got involved with play by blocking the defenderā€¦

Absolutely no one is suggesting it is a foul.

Both sets of fans can legitimately look at chances that should have been scored, as well as pivotal moments with VAR chalking off goals. There was something for everyone to chew on.

It was a very high quality game contested by two of the best 4/5 teams in the world.

The quality of the penalties was outstanding. Often the shootout is won 4-2, 5-3, something like that. We saw excellent technique and nerves of steel throughout.

Until Kepa, obviously.

Hahahahaha.
