Liverpool v Chelsea (ELC Final 27/2/22 4.30pm) , Thanks Kepa & Tuchel

Honestly, that’s what it looks like to me as well. It looks like a physically outmatched player is trying to body virgil as a way of defending him 1-1. Once he realize the ball is too deep for Virgil he starts thinking about getting over and the contact between them at that point was part of James making the decision to defend virgil (which does not make Virgil offside). the reason he got over late was not because of the contact but because he made, in hindsight, the wrong decision.

We hear a lot of complaints that we “dont play the game” and get fucked for it. We do, we just do it differently, in a way that doesnt earmark us as a team full of shitbags. You dont need to get involved in scraps or play act, you just need to show that them trying to do so isnt going to throw you off your game (hendo death glare to Costa)

The the VVD/James situation, if they were both onside and Virgil scores, I don’t think the ref calls that back, so in my mind the contact between them shouldn’t interfere with our goal.

That isn’t the rule though. It’s not about whether it’s a foul. It’s about whether his physical presence in an offside position prevented the defender from making a play. Think of this as more similar to consideration of a player standing in front of a keeper blocking his view of a shot.

Totally agree and well said, I have said it numerous times use the foot as the point to draw the line, there is a reason it is called FOOTball

Completely right just :+1:

I don’t think the fact that the game is not played mounted on horses is particularly relevant to the offside rule, it is complicated enough already.

Did Alonso just agree with Milner ?

Still buzzing and just ripping through my day in highest spirits. Posted several times over the last couple years along with COG and Rambler that I badly wanted the boys to win one of the domestic trophies. I’ve always considered them nice trophies to have.

I have to laugh at people calling it a “tinpot” or not real trophy. Fuck off. 90+ teams enter, they all want to win it, and it’s a nice piece of silverware to have. I’m not letting ANYONE tell me otherwise.

To be fair, Chelsea is a terribly difficult matchup for our boys and our setup. Their midfield is pure nails and it gives us matchup difficulties. As much as I loathe literally everything about Chelsea, their club, players and supporters, they’re always a robust challenge for us.

Nothing else to say. Both squads gave everything, with glorious chances for both. The calm of Kelleher is unreal. Just completely made up for our boys and supporters everywhere.

Joel was feeling it.

Ha, I’d have told them to fuck off if I was a Chelsea player.

Ultimately it feels like a con - though as you say, attitude can be leveraged… MC, Barca, RM, PSG and MU do it with £££. LFC do it with what appears to be a combination of ££ and team spirit/ethics - which is possibly more difficult to balance. Remove a critical piece, fail to add or fail to prune and we are undone. It is a fine balance in every way.

The fucking FA needs to wind their necks in.

Investigate Harvey for grabbing the flare? That’s what you got out of that game?
Not the ridiculous offside decisions? The fact that Atwell forgot his cards for most of the match?
