That ought to worry these people given what happened to him next…

Atwell on VAR, fantastic. That’ll be at least 1 season-ender from Joelinton completely ignored.

It seems like Quansah will have to step in at RB.

Could allow Robbo (and Tsimi, since we often change or share minutes in that position) a bit more freedom on his side to go and support. Build up with 3. Obviously Trent and Quansah is a big technical difference, but dynamics wise it shouldn’t be too dissimilar.

I was hoping Gakpo would get more game time ahead of starting the final, so I’m not sure about his current state. I also wonder how he is when he comes back from injuries. Is his intensity quickly regained or does he need a few games.

It’s a shame because if they go Trippier RB and Livramento LB, I was looking forward to a firing Gakpo against Trippier. If it’s Diaz, hopefully he can also cause him trouble, like we did in Madrid in 2019.

The players missing they have are certainly not a small blow for them, but they remain potentially a very tricky side to beat in a one off game.

They gave us one of the hardest games of our season when we faced them away in the league. The home game was better for us. Howe said he was satisfied enough with what they showed at Anfield, but that was also not what Newcastle can offer at their best. I think they saved a few things for the final.

They’ve had that “first” final of this era, after a long time, against United. So they will be more prepared mentally this time, needless to say highly motivated.

Midfield will be a big one, because it’s probably the best part of their team Especially without Gordon now. Szobo might not only deal with Tonali trying to build up from deep, but getting support from Guimaraes.

They have a decision to make on the left, does Willock start who would offer more midfield support or Barnes, who is more of a proper wide player. Murphy does a balancing job on the right side, usually allowing Gordon to have freedom on the opposite side. If it’s Trippier at RB, no doubt Murphy will have to take good care of him, doubling up, etc.

Intensity will be important, but also quality, experience, depth. Hopefully we prove that when you put everything together, we’re too good for them at the moment.

Let’s hear more from team news from both camps.

A game that will be won and lost in midfield, and come sunday I’d assume they will have more energy/bite in midfield (through Thuglinton, Guimares and Tonali). Its going to be all about getting through those three and finding space. Szobozlai will find plenty of space given the size of the Wembley pitch.

I will be surpised if this is anything other than a tight game won by a single goal.

Everyone’s focusing on Joelinton, and ignoring that Guimares is quite the thug too…

I’m sure that Arne and his team will know the personnel, formation and tactics to see us through this game. COYR YNWA :+1:

Could that be made permanent somehow? It would definitely be uplifting for the world.

I’ve always been puzzled why, given he is pretty two footed, Kostas has never been tried as an emergency right back.

Klopp and Slot are quite a bit better at footy than me, but it’s interesting that Quansah, Jones, Endo, Bajcetic have all been asked to cover there in an emergency.

Lefties on the right are incredibly rare, though there have been some exceptions in last years. Mendy for Real and France, Guerreiro at Bayern, etc. It was more in emergency situations. More than those player’s right foots being something that is obvious. I don’t think Tsimikas’ right foot is of the level to be seriously considered on the right. Who usually goes to RB when you’re out of RB’s other than certain right footed CB’s, midfielders, wingers at times. That is more often the case.

(Semi) serious question but what do we do if it goes to pens? Stick with plan A or change it up?

Brooks in the middle, and Atwell on VAR…that’s us getting fuck all Sunday.

Its partly why id be happy to see someone like nunez start and Jota end the game.

It really depends how much the game on Tuesday took out of us, that is effectively my biggest concern.
