I’m wondering if the logic behind is that Jürgen thinks he doesn’t need regular match time to be sharp, and we need to ease Firmino back in. Minamino is versatile enough that having him around would be a good thing.
Given that Woltman has seen playing time in another match so far this season, maybe Jürgen thought that it was simply better off for us to stick with these options. Not to mention if we lose Origi to injury again while AFCON is on, we might be in dire straits…
Arsenal went out last night with no shots on target away to Forest. Hopefully they’re fired up for us, a little bit more pressure on them (not like we will not have it as well, we have to win more trophies), we will relish that.
Though we cannot ignore some of the stuff they showed against City, even if they will also have a changed side. They made some steps since we last played them, it has to be said.
On our part, we also have to defend better than we did lately.
Hoping for a top atmosphere like it was against Leicester in the previous round and go to London with a win/advantage in the bag.
Tô be honest they haven’t really, one good game against Man City but some patchy form since our game, remember weren’t they on an unbeaten until they played us.
The other possibility is that they had been in contact with the virus (possibly via Trent?) which had shown up on the first test but, as they are vaccinated, the traces of virus had been wiped by the time they processed the PCR tests?
My wife is a nurse and they have had lots of marginal positives on lateral flows but, at least with her team, no one has developed the illness. With the latest variant it might be a different story.
Hope Divock is available ASAP. We will need him in January, in particular for the Leeds game if it is indeed played during the winter break (when the Brazilians and Taki are likely to play for their national teams). He would also be a valuable option off the bench in both matches this week (if he really is available) and a likely starter in at least one of matches next week.
