Liverpool vs. Arsenal: League Cup Semi-finals (first-leg), 19:45 Thu 13th January 2022

Thought it was supposed to be the winter break Juergen and others fought for, for player rest (since Holiday fixtures had to remain)

Either way, Leeds had other games postponed.before ours, so shouldn’t they play the other games first?

It’s an international break. All the top leagues are off. I really can’t see the PL forcing it. And even if they tried we’d be one or two players from it being postponed anyhow.

I don’t think they actually can, per FIFA regulation.

I was thinking that, I noticed the Championship is on that few weeks but with every other top league out of action it’s surely not forceable.

If it had been the FA Cup I could have seen the argument but not the top league and as I said with the current rules it would probably only require one more injury or suspension.

There is an option of playing it on one of the off weeks of the CL last 16 at 6pm as do some European leagues do. I’m kind of surprised there aren’t more friendlies from some European international teams.

There isn’t a lot of gaps til April other than that but I don’t know what the requirement is for playing games at the same time as the CL. There is a week free in April mind.

Those rules don’t apply to the Championship, as I recall - only the top level of competition. The Championship causes considerable heartache, because it has more market clout than many first tier leagues, so has a fair number of internationals as well.

Agreed. There are good reasons why you might test positive one day and not a next that don’t mean the first was wrong, or a false positive. False positives are rare, and the chance of blowing several of them in a group is difficult to believe, especially when there are other explanations related to time course of vaccinated young men clearing the virus that can explain it.

While the LFTs are not thought of as quantitative tests, the intensity of the positive line and the speed with which it appears is related to the amount of virus in the sample, so you can make inference about the amount of virus in the sample and the prognosis of the individual when comparing a faint line that appears only after the full 15 minutes vs a strong thick line that appears in a couple of minutes.

As I said I can’t see it being played in the slightest not sure where This is Anfield got it from.

Championship probably can’t avoid it due to the amount of games it still has to play though I noticed most second divisions of top leagues are also off that week.

What’s the probable pool of players for this game:

Alisson, Kelleher and Adrian
Neco
Gomez, Konate, Matip, and VVD
Robertson and Tsimikas
Fabinho, Ox, Henderson, Milner, and Curtis
Jota, Firmino, and Takumi

I think the biggest issue is the lack of training sessions before the game.

So, what’s the plan Ifti? Are you going for a solid 2-0 or something more flamboyant like last time?

Apparently Arsenal has a shortage of midfielders. I say we route them at Anfield and spare the seniors from the return leg.
