Agree they were both unfortunate for Leeds, but they dont have to be conscious and deliberate for them to be fouls. I actually have far more issue with the first than the second.
Interestingly, the US commentary just commented that the player only avoided the red on the second because the ref thought the chance had gone and therefore it was NOT a denial of a goal scoring opportunity. They actually viewed it as a deliberate foul (not a genuine footballing play that would have protected him from a red card) but not a red because it wasnt DOGSO.
