Liverpool vs. Leeds: Premier League, Wed 23rd February 19:45 GMT

So far our only confirmed absentees are Firmino and Jota. While that severely depletes our attacking options we still have enviable and unthinkable depths in other parts of the squad. We have won our last eight games including five in Premier League. Leeds’s record in 2022 is WLWLDLL. Fortunately, both of the wins were in Premier League and that has helped them to keep their nose above water.

Will the upcoming League Cup final play any part in Klopp’s team selection for this game? Considering Firmino and Jota are injured, I think it would be prudent to preserve one of Salah, Mane, and Luis; and start Origi or Minamino instead. Ox is unlikely to start, but will Klopp seek safety in Fabinho or opt for a more adventurous player? Will we revert to our usual FB combo or will the pretenders continue to stake a claim?

Come on Reds, raise hell. YNWA

Leeds’ team news by WhoScored:

  • Robin Koch is unlikely to play here after suffering a head injury in defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.
  • Raphinha scored off the bench against the Red Devils and should be reinstated into the starting XI at Anfield.
  • Stuart Dallas and Junior Firpo both returned from injury in the 4-2 loss to bolster Marcelo Bielsa’s options in midfield and defence. Charlie Cresswell was also on the bench.

I’d be looking at

Alisson (Ideally I’d want Kelleher to get a match in as a warmup to a league cup final but Klopp ruled that out happening
TAA (Substituted once the game is put to bed) Konate Virgil Tsimikas
Jones Fabinho Elliot (with one /two of Henderson Thiago and Keita coming in off the bench if needed )
Minamino Origi Diaz

3-0!

Hopefully they blew themselves trying to beat a mid-table rival at the weekend.

Time to keep up the pressure on City.

The first thing to note is that the Leeds game/League Cup is a Wednesday/Sunday cycle, so there should be plenty of rest time available. And I still say that this is the more important game.

I’m also working on the assumption that Jota and Firmino will be unavailable for both games.

I would be looking at this team

Alisson
Trent Konate Van Dijk Robbo
Fabinho
Elliot Thiago
Salah Mane Diaz

We know Alisson is starting so that’s a given. The fullbacks had the weekend off so we can assume they’ll be fine for both games. Van Dijk is Van Dijk, but Matip looked shaky at the weekend and could probably benefit from a game off.

Fab and Elliot should be fresh and rested, and Thiago hasn’t had much time either, although he is one I’d swap for Hendo/Keita on about 60.

With the front three we’re a bit short on options. I think we need to play the three that started against Norwich, and hopefully bring them off with the points secure.

The other shout might be to a play Salah through the middle, and put Elliot on the left, with Hendo taking his place in midfield.

There can be no excuse for not winning this one. I can’t think of better opponents for us to play right now. They have a load of injuries. Their style is ideally suited to us. It’s exhausting for them and they have just come off a home defeat on a heavy pitch.

I expect the intensity of everything to go up a notch now. Not just on the pitch but off it. I think one of the reasons why the Anfield atmosphere has been slightly off this season for league games is maybe there’s been a lack of real belief that we can win the title. Not anymore. If we win this one it is definitely on.

Their game vs Man U looked pretty intense. I’d run them ragged the first 60 mins, bring in our deadly subs and then kill them off.
3-0 Reds

It certainly needs to for this one. You can guarantee their mob are going to be loud all night long.

I have a feeling that this man is getting some match time (likely off the bench), and is due a goal. If Jota and Bobby are looking a bit iffy to make the final, I’d have no problem with some Div time.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Big Div starts tomorrow. With Bobby and Jota out, Klopp might look to give one of Salah/Mane/Diaz some rest ahead of Sunday. And a Wednesday night game under the lights at Anfield akin to CL matches (not to mention Merseyside Derbies) is exactly the stage where Origi normally thrives.

JK just confirmed in his presser both Bobby and Jota (as expected) out for tomorrow’s game so the front 3 should stay unchanged.

Thiago to start over Ox in only change please.

Give Trent & Robbo extra time for the big 1 on Sunday.

A very good time to play Leeds , they will try to attack as that’s all they know and we love a team that tries to play football against us. We should beat them 3 or 4 -0 no problem.

Allison starts. Trent, Konate, VVD and Robbo.
Fabinho, Keita and Thiago
Salah, Origi and Mane.

Take this seriously, Diaz, Hendo and Elliot off the bench.

Smash them. They’re shit.

These actually are properly shit, and their style of play should allow us to score a hatful of goals. Which means we’ll probably labor to a scrappy 1-0, in honor of the late @Lowton_Red….
