Terrible news. I feel for his family and loved ones. 2-time WSL winner with our club, and then came back and led us back to the WSL with a win in the Championship.
Apparently, after getting sacked in February, he took the Burnley job in June only to resign in August. I wonder if he learned he had some sort of terminal illness.
Poor mental health is such a disaster. Having experienced attempts that didn’t result in death (thankfully), it’s always been there in my family and myself.
Thankfully I’ve only ever been so low to only consider it, but those who get paid to write columns dismissing it are frankly scum.
I’m wondering if his son asked for the details to be released. Often, suicide is kept secret, but his initial statements were encouraging anyone else who was feeling suicidal to get help.
It’s very sad, but raising awareness of what help is available could at least offer some hope.
Yes, quite possible. His son had reported the suicide the very next day on x, but without any details, just a private picture and a call for suicide prevention.
