U19s have done their job today - beat Bologna 2-1. Ranel Young got the first pinching it off the CB and firing in near post. Bologna equalized but Amara Nallo won it after the keeper made a mess of controlling Carter Pinnington’s header.
Is there any noticeable difference in how the academy sides are setting up/ playing from last season?
I have only seen highlights but we seem defensively open to counter attacks which was the same a last season
Pearce:
The Athletic revealed on Wednesday that Chelsea have been blocking requests from Liverpool scouts to attend youth games at their Cobham training centre this season.
It is understood to be a response to their displeasure at losing one of their brightest talents, 16-year-old attacker Rio Ngumoha, to Liverpool last summer. As scouting passes are issued on a reciprocal basis, Liverpool are set to deny access to Chelsea’s scouts while it remains unresolved.
The news of scouts not being allowed into Cobham was greeted with bemusement at Kirkby given that Ngumoha’s transfer was given the green light by the Premier League after passing a five-step review, which is carried out whenever a youth player wishes to leave one top academy for another to ensure no rules were broken.
The England youth international, who was coveted by Manchester United, felt that Liverpool offered a much clearer pathway to the senior setup than Chelsea given the latter’s extensive recruitment drive in recent years.
Liverpool are relaxed about the situation; if they really wanted to watch a Chelsea youngster closely, they could still attend away matches or analyse video footage.
Inglethorpe on hearing the news
Moving the conversation about Chambers’ stress injury here…
Growing pains are real, but not really connected to growth, and certainly not problematic or common enough to explain away a situation of this many of the kids having to have months out (or longer) due to stress related injuries as just something that happens with kids.
The most popular explanation for “growing pains” is the accumulation of stress related to physical activity their body isnt adapted to tolerate and recover from. To the degree that anything looking like growing pains is relevant in players at an age to be anywhere near senior football it is almost certainly a big mismatch in what they are being asked to do vs what they are capable of recovering from on a regular basis.
Pretty strong U18 team playing Stoke currently. Likes of Trey Nyoni, Carter Pinnington, Rio Ngumoha and Joe Bradshaw - who I all think have potential to make first team appearances are playing.
Some others who are promising but I haven’t seen play enough to judge their level like Clae Ewing, Ollie O’Connor, Louie Enahoro and Karim Ahmed too.
0-0 at half time but Liverpool have been dominant.
2-0 win for the good guys - Ahmed and Sonnie-Lambie with the goals.
I’m guessing this is because the U21s don’t play for another 3 weeks?
Joe Bradshaw, highly rated winger in our U18 team, has become the newest client of CAA Base - a sports management company that also manage the likes of Cole Palmer, Son Heung-min and our own Jarell Quansah.
I can’t tell if that’s good news or bad?
It’s an indicator of his talent level, rather than news I suppose. CAA are going through every Tier 1 academy and trying to sign all the best players at each one.
Rather topical that Bradshaw scored in this.
