It is very firmly in the quack category. As some context, it’s not a common way to categorize fats and was very rarely used before carnivore loons like liver king became popular and it exploded into use then.
Lets take Canola oil (Canadian Oil Low Acid) Made from the Rape plant - unfortunate name!
Rapeseeds were for centuries highly poisonous to humans until the plant was selectively bred and modified to reduce the levels of acid in the plant.
“Unfortunately, about two-thirds of the monounsaturated fatty acids in (original) rapeseed oil are erucic acid, a 22-carbon monounsaturated fatty acid that had been associated with Keshan’s disease, which causes fibrotic lesions on the heart.”
Canola oil was originally developed as a lubricant for ship engines.
“Rapeseed oil has been an important component of lubricants for ships and steam engines because, unlike most oils, it sticks to wet metal.” Mmmm nice! What else might this stick to?
The video below shows how this beautiful, all-natural product, is processed by dusky maidens amid fields of lush pasture. Just ignore the solvents, the chemicals, the plastics, the industrial processing.
If you want to put this shit in your body - go ahead fill your boots. Your choice.
And yes butter is a little problematic for stir fry. How about Extra Virgin Olive Oil and/or coconut oil or avocado oil or…
We use Olive Oil in most of our cooking needs these days… but when I was a nipper it was never used for cooking in our house if I can remember correctly.
The only time I can ever recall seeing Olive Oil, it was in a small bottle that you got from the Chemist shop. If you ever got an earache, my dear old mum would pour some drops of it into the ear to ease the pain…!
Fifty years later and I am cooking my fried eggs in it :0)
The oil is derived from the fruit not really the seed - although there are bound to be traces of the seed in the oil. It is not considered a seed oil really. Good point though.
I used to hate eating olives when I was younger - now I buy them every week. Strange how tastes change.
I spent a week at an olive oil farm in a place called Montestigliano near Siena. fascinating stuff.
When they prune the trees, they bundle the leaves/twigs to dry with string and store them for firestarter for when then cook on the outdoor grill. If you ever have the opportunity to cook over olivewood you’re in for a treat.
Based on those figures then, even 32 km every day for a week is fairly impressive.
On a treadmill, I’m +/- 4100 steps to run it and +/- 4700 steps to walk it.
So I guess my walking is quite a bit longer than the average step length in the article
My 13st dream didn’t come off. I have however moved fat from my waist and built muscle. I certainly look better than I did but the overall weight won’t go under that magic 14st. Yet.
