Ultimately, a diet that encourages natural production of GLP-1 diet is full of whole foods, including fruit, vegetables, legumes and nuts, says Damman. That people could be discovering this by attempting to mimic the effects of weight-loss drugs is an irony not lost on some nutritional scientists, including Damman.
That article is absolute nonsense (no offense meant to you @mackie).
If only people had known before that a healthy diet high in fiber fruits veg and healthy fats could help with weight loss.
None taken, I’m not a nutritionist. Just interested in the debate and what comes out of it.
I think the main point was more this bit::
“It comes down to behaviour change, which is incredibly difficult. That’s why lifestyle measures very often won’t work for people caught in metabolic ruts, and why these drugs have been incredibly helpful for people with morbid obesity with complications.”
Do you disagree with this take?
I think the problem is it incongruent with the article that was written. It is a reasonable conclusion in isolation (although technically it incorrectly frames lifestyle changes having a poor success rate as being due to people with damaged metabolisms), but not in an article exploring and giving such credence to magic diets that are designed to get the same benefit as is provided by the drugs. Especially when the diet ends up being no different than what people have been advised to eat for decades and already struggle to follow consistently.
This is the conclusion to that piece only if it takes a very different angle on the “fad” that was being explored. But the reality this is how orgs like BBC write about science.
So lost another 2Ibs after 2 weeks of losing a few ounces.
Did a bit more walking this week so thats probably why.
Total lost is 38Ibs
Was 17st 2Ibs and now 14st 6Ibs.
Did jab last night so from next Thursday I will use 30ml instead of 60ml and see how I go from there.
When you put it like that, its crazy in a good way.
I’m not used to pounds and stones etc, but that’s 17 kilo, which is a lot!
Lost 10 kilos so far in a month and a half (using WeGovy).
Been exercising at least once every other day, knee is feeling better as well
10kg in a month! ![]()
Lost 1Ib this week.
Now 14st 5Ibs
39Ibs lost in total. (17.69Kg)
Had a few days with stomach rumbles normally happens after 5 days. I’ve been on 2.5ml for so long that I actually think that its more my mind now than the jab as I should’ve gone up to 5ml 2 months ago but didn’t. I’m please with that as it proves I can ignore hunger and will be easier to come off.
45 days!
Still, thats super impressive. Crazy even.
My mate was on Mounjaro then switched to WeGovy due to price increase.
He hardly lost any weight on WeGovy so went back to Mounjaro.
He had lost nearly 4 stone (was 19 stone) before .
Oddly I went on to NHS site to check my BMI - It was 38 when I started and is now 29 but Im still considered overweight because they say it should be 25.
Im nearly 6 foot and quite broad and Id think id look like the living dead if my BMI went to 25.
Fair play on the loss. Its a serious journey that takes time, resilience and an energy you didn’t know you possessed.
BMI is a crude tool to be honest. Usain Bolt has a high BMI, but he’s hardly obese? It is used because there is no sophisticated method of working out ideal weight. It doesn’t allow for body shape, muscle or age. I worked with people suffering from eating disorders for a while and BMI was the bane of our lives.
For me the single biggest realisation has been, due to work or other home related activities, if I can’t go to the gym one day, it doesn’t matter as long as I stick to my calorie limits. Just by living you burn calories so just consume less than your approximate resting metabolic rate burns and you’re good to go.
BMI doesn’t properly account for bone density/muscle mass. Just get to what you think looks healthy rather than focusing on the numbers imo.
Crude tool is right. I think it’s useful as a starting point and something to set your sights on early on in your weight loss journey. But when you’re nearing your goal, better to ditch it completely.
now 14st 4Ib and half an ounce.
Stayed the same this week.
Whats the overall loss? And in what time frame?
Its a great achievement, no matter how its done. Your general health gains will be massive.
