Losing the midriff "wobble" or the TAN diet/exercise thread

Trainer is set up in the garage. More work needed for the ideal set up but it will do for now. I’ve joined MyWoosh and joined a beginner training programme for the full sports washing experience. I’ve done a couple of rides on this last week and they’re ok. Nothing crazy yet. Ramps and intervals are coming though.

Diet next. Weight today is 85.5kg.

This is one of those things that is true but ultimately clinically not important, at least as we’re talking about people with excess weight to lose. Bone mass is simply too small to move the needle, and while its possible to carry so much muscle an otherwise lean person has an elevated BMI that is much harder to accomplish and much rarer than people imagine.

But even in those cases where it is true, it should not matter. BMI is a first line screen tool, something that is designed to be easy to apply to a broad range of people and identify those for whom more detailed follow up is indicated. Very rarely should clinical decisions be made from the result of such an assessment (you dont go for chemo to treat colon cancer simply as a result of blood in your stool) and so the next step to a Dr measuring a high BMI should always be follow up. In most cases some sense of risk management, even if only watchful waiting, will be appropriate even in people who are leanish well muscled person. The flip side is weight loss may not be the best course of action for someone who legit has too much fat mass. But a Dr who doesnt take that additional step is the fault in those circumstances, not the validity of the measurement itself.

The argument I would make concerns the validity of the tool as an indicator for treatment. It is unreasonable in my opinion to base weight gain programnes for those with eating disorders on specific BMI measurements, yet its done. In a world where uniformity of assessment seems to matter, this instrument is a poor indicator for any intervention.

A neighbor asked me to go to some workout that he does early morning, 5.30am. It meets with a group of fellas and is outside in all weather. I get the impression that it’s a bit like a boot camp or something, I dunno. I hope I haven’t inadvertently joined the mob or something

Anyway, when left to my own devices I veer in the direction of too much laziness and inactivity, so I said yes I will join him. Meeting at the end of my drive way at 5.10am. Ugh. That’s a bit too early for me, but I think it is these Indiana people and their inherited farm worker body clocks!

It’s a chance to get moving and wake up and win the day I suppose. Let’s see.

Hi @Walshy07, just to ask how much has it cost you in total? And does that cost show any money saved because you’ve saved on other things such as food obviously and drink?

@odin_telamon So far its cost me £733.00 - I got a discount on my first order, then because a few mates used my codes I got further discounts. I’ve only ever paid full price once.

1st Order £108.00 (inc new customer discount)
2nd Order £142.00 - (the old full price)
3rd Order £108.00 (Used a referral code)
4th Order £242.00 - (Ordered 2 Pen before the price went up and again I had a referral code)
5th Order £133.00 - Last night was the first order since prices went up but had 40% referral code - should be £172.

Wegovy is a bit cheaper at £125 so will consider that if I get no more referral codes

Yeah im not buying a lot of food or beer but I have had to buy new clothes as I was XXL and am now a Large. Im selling old stuff on vinted and replacing it with new sizes.

Im going to speak to Pharmacist about where to go from here - how to maintain etc. I dont really want to lose anymore. I was hoping that the 2 weeks of not losing any was the end of the weight loss but it wasnt. So ill have a chat with someone about it.

How’s your hair holding up? Serious question. My missus runs a hair salon and has observed the rapid deterioration of some of her clients hair having been on some if these products.
