sky sports reporting we rejected a £58.5M offer for Luis from Bayern
I’ll let the club decide.
Though I don’t think selling loads of players helps us. Nethier does getting Anthony Gordon.
He could if they stump up close to 100m, at the moment they are about 30m apart.
He would be another player that we would have to replace. I think he is working more to us seeing out his contract.
I’d still prefer the club doesn’t sell Diaz. Too important a role in the team for next season and we have enough left to do with a new center forward and center back as it is. That’s assuming he doesn’t start claiming things like back injuries to force the move though. If we do end up selling him, Rodrygo being available, might make for a good replacement who can play the Diaz roles for left wing and center forward.
If the outcome is we end up singing Gordon, and helping Newcastle to assemble a frontline of Ekitike and Isak, it’s a strong nope from me.
If Konate wants out now, and we add some cash for Rodrygo and thus allow Diaz to leave, for the right price, so be it.
He’s got two years left, we’re not letting him go on a free next summer.
Mb, thought he had one year left. In that case; club know they’ve got him for two years, and are comfortable with him seeing his contract down and letting him search for his bumper contract in a couple of years. Rather than risking a bumper contract given his age (Salah and VVD being notable exceptions given they are genuinely able to put forward decent claims to be the best in the world in their position)
If he wants to leave let him put in a transfer request.
He’s a really good player but if he doesn’t want to be here I’d rather we find someone that would be desperate for the opportunity to play for us.
Replacing him would be a headache we could do without this summer but really can’t be arsed with him possibly sulking all season or playing these games again next summer.
Give him a fee and a date and tell him that’s the parameters for him getting a move to wherever it is he wants to be. Up to him to get that sorted with any buying club.
The tweet from Ornstein says ‘Colombia int’l has made clear he wants to leave @TheAthleticFC’ - surely he just needs to contact customer services to cancel his subscription.
I think he does want to be here, but he wants a new contract/more money.
I don’t think he’ll do a Gyokeres and kick up a stink, so I’m more than happy to keep him here. Not like he’s struggling to put food on the table and has a shit life.
With 2 years left on his contract it is entirely reasonable for him to doing what is in his interests in protecting his income potential, especially at his age and how small a window he likely has to land the next big contract. I would say that even extends to him agitating for a resolution if he’s not getting any positive indications about a renewal from us.
We are parties in this situation. Yes he has 2 years left, but we are fully aware of what it says to a player to allow them to enter their last 2 years and also understand how an important player will react if we allow that to happen.
Happy with whatever the club decide to do. I’ve thought for a long time we’d be okay letting him see out his final 2 years with us (same with Jota before what happened) unless stupendous offers came in. Diaz could throw up a stinker, but I don’t think he will.
Obvious replacements linked will be Gordon and Rodrygo. I suspect we’d push for Gordon due to the homegrown element, and our previous interest when Newcastle had PSR issues.
Doubt Bayern are chucking in £60m bids without some encouragement. Having failed to land Wirtz and had a bid for Woltemade rejected they won’t want another high profile miss this summer.
Maybe it’s a ploy to get a new contract but I highly doubt we welcome getting pulled into silly games like this. Same goes for Bayern too. Also not as if his dad has been twerking at Barca on his sons behalf for some time now.
I’m a bit late to the party checking out Rodrygo, but the noise around Diaz made it make more sense to do it. Admittedly I’m going off Youtube highlights, but it’s a long time since I was so impressed by a player (if I’m honest, Firmino and Son in Germany plus Isak in the last year or so). There, in my humble opinion, is a winger with x-factor, folks. Elite player. Also capable of playing on both right and left wings which would important for us with Salah leaving soon. Rodrygo is currently being kept off his favoured left wing by a combination of Vinicius and Mbappe (Real Madrid have the option of playing Mbappe off the left when Gonzalo Garcia is playing as striker).
Now I might be wrong, but if selling Luis Diaz meant we could replace him with Rodrygo, I’d do it.
Rodrygo, Isak, Guéhi… to go with Wirtz, Frimpong, Kerkez and Mama.
Like John Henry is playing a billionaires game of ‘hold my beer’ with Todd Boehly
All in, not far off half a billion quid😥
If we end up selling Diaz and Nunez, with the tragic loss of Diogo, we’re effectively left with three senior forwards (Mo and Cody and Fede). Even acknowledging that Wirtz and Elliott could play on the front line, that’s still light even if we bring in Isak.
Still, if Diaz wants to go and the club won’t improve his contract, I’m inclined to let him leave (for a good fee) because I don’t like the idea of keeping players who are actively recruiting other clubs to buy them.
Gakpo?
