Luis Diaz (LW) Bayern Munich

If you asked your wife if she was cheating on you, and she refused to answer, what would you be thinking? That in 6 months time she’s going to say no I haven’t?

Are we still not projecting?

There is a massive difference one was out of contact and could freely leave. One touted himself like a cheap tart and broke his contract but lets twist it shall we.

Trent fulfilled his contract. Diaz had a dream to play for Barcelona once they fell away it was suddenly Bayern are now his dream.

Who knows about his dreams, but it’s a good lesson how it’s hard to always get to where you want in football. The window might be short or it might never even appear. Diaz has gone to another one of the biggest clubs there is, he will hope to be happy there. His Barca thing (who knows how much of a thing it is in the first place) could be gone forever.

Diaz didn’t break his contract, we chose to sell the rights to it.

And yes, Trent could freely leave having fulfilled his contract and lined himself up a move to Madrid who knows how far back. Certainly long enough ago to get started on learning the lingo.

Ultimately both elected to leave, anything else is somewhat semantics of what we got in return. In Trent’s case that was probably a year or two more in service, with Diaz it was a wad of cash to reinvest.

But make no mistake, both of them decided they didn’t want to be here anymore despite the club wanting them to be which means neither are of any concern to me any more.

If his Barca dream was true he’s not doing himself much favours with these contracts.

They haven’t got a pot to piss in everyone knows that.

Barca was Olmo’s dream (or better to say, return where he came from), almost the whole of Europe wanted him (us included) and they got him. So, sometimes it’s possible, sometimes impossible. Diaz would’ve probably ended up more in rotation, battling with Raphinha and Lewa. At Bayern, I think he will be viewed as a starter at LW and able to backup Kane up top.

Woah there.

I don’t have a problem with what Trent did, but it isn’t mental gymnastics to suggest that he strung the club and fans along a bit.

Ultimately he completed his contract and was free to do as he wished.

…Completed his contract in a manner to ensure Madrid paid next to nothing for a 100MP talent.. All the while learning Spanish in preparation for the move.

Lets not be whitewashing this…

Hate to be that guy, but is it time to close this thread mods?

I don’t understand the fuss. We got a good fee (perhaps not the highest possible) for a 28 year old player who didn’t want to extend his contract with what the club were offering. We unload a player who want to be paid more for a solid fee and the player moves to a great club which is willing to give him what he wants. He always played his heart out and was very, very, good for us. Why should there be any hard feelings? I wish he would stay as he’ll be very difficult to replace at a reasonable fee, but I completely understand where both parties are coming from and I wish him the best.

He was only a 100m player if he signed a contract and the club were willing to sell him under contract. Considering we didn’t contemplate it while he was seeing his contract out suggests it was happening.

So your point is mute.

He’s a 75-100MP by value, based on age and talent, not contract status. How much he’s ultimately sold, like any other player, is based on what someone accepts to pay… We did not contemplate selling him because we wanted to extend his contract.

My point is, he did take advantage of the situation, as is his right to. But he did!!!

Some things on here are quite amusing.
Stuff like moot/mute can raise a smile, but even better is the way that so many people think that they have a unique insight into the thought processes of players, coaches, recruitment staff and so on. There are so many who know exactly what has been going on in the minds of total strangers, who they have never met, and have only seen wearing shorts on tv.
I really admire the self confidence of these posters to boldly state as fact things which can surely only be guesswork.
I wish I had the nerve.
