Luis Suarez (Luis Alberto Suarez)

Loved Suarez. Reckon he would have been Jurgens favourite (even above the likes of Virg and Mo).

Hope he becomes a pundit. That could be fun.

Yeah, he was looking good over the Gauchão, but he’s slowed a lot in the Brasileirão.

Before he left Atleti, there were clips of him in training periodically whacking his knee back into place, so it’s been on the cards.

He’s been heaping praise on Brendan, as well, but Luis is always effusive when asked about former managers and teammates.

His knee was in a pretty bad condition already near the end of his time at Barca, hence why it was a big part of them not agreeing a new contract (and were pulling shit incoming moves, bringing Griezmann the summer before, which made no sense stylistically as Messi was still there). Everything he achieved or does after that is credit to him.

I remember his game I think against WBA, we had gone 1-0 down or had been pretty crap the first 20 mins.

Anyhow he grasped the game by the neck for 20 minutes and destroyed them, he was the best player I’ve ever seen live.*

*Ive seen Messi and Ronaldo but they were both poor on those days.

Always remember Suarez celebrating by himself when he scored against a good chelsea team at stamford bridge,

It was like the rest of the team hadn’t expected us to score or even attack chelsea, and didnt know how to react to his goal

Sad for those who never saw King Kenny live .
And as good as Suarez was, for me Stevie G is above him.

This was the 1 for me….jeered for his miss, then in the blink of an eye pinches the ball back, turns and megs cya later, and boom outside the boot into the corner all in the space of about 3 seconds. SAS made me fall back in love with the game (sadly that’s now evaporating quickly for obvious reasons)….and for that I’ll always be grateful to the pair of them.

Do you reckon he’s ever enjoyed goals more than those 2 against England?

Didn’t see Kenny live. Gerrard my all-time favourite player, but Suarez was a different level in terms of ability alone

Game is faster nowadays. It’s much more tactical and technical.

I’m sure it was more physical back then but more distance is being covered by players today.

I will be 40 next year but I can admit that some of my childhood heroes like Klinsmann and Völler wouldn’t be able to lace the boots of Lewandowski or Haaland.

Not sure what you’ve been doing in the last 30 years but Kenny and players from his generation wouldn’t even make it to pro level nowadays.

Why would a Kenny Dalglish born 40 years later not also be more tactically and technically adept with greater stamina?

Wow post of shame right here.

King Kenny if born in this generation would have had all the training, dietry guidance, facilities, training etc that todays players have had. I thought that would be obvious. Next time I’ll draw you a picture.

Disagree but no biggie. Gerrard could play in any position and be great imho of course.

Of course it’s difficult to imagine players like end products from another time into this time (and vice versa). That’s not the question, it’s silly. But the outcome if they were born, raised, lived and played in this era, the outcome especially for some of the best would’ve possibly been the same or similar. I believe the talent/quality of a lot of best players from before would’ve been successful today, if they were born to play now, but not all of them. And I believe the talent/quality of a lot of best players from today would’ve been successful before, if they were born before, but not all of them. The difference of the ones who wouldn’t make it in either cases would depend a lot on circumstances, because it’s the most popular team sport and to get to a high level is pretty difficult.

That wasn’t the reason. He’d laid into Joe Allen at half time, I believe, and the rest of the team weren’t having it.

No offence but that’s ridiculous. Do you see many better players than Maradona, Cruyff and Pele? Messi is basically a Maradona replica and he was by far the best player of his generation. Have you seen Dalglish’s highlights? His vision and technical ability stand out like a sore thumb.

Modern players are better prepared physically and tactically. So much so, that in my opinion they’ve become overeliant on physicality and they’ve become more athletes than pure footballers.

If anything, they have regressed from a technical point of view compared to the past when they had to play in much worse conditions with boots that were closer to clogs.
