Luis Suarez (Luis Alberto Suarez)

I loved Suarez when he was playing for us, and he was a formidable forward, incredible. However, I think that Mo is the superior one: faster, better dribbles, even more clinical, and more decisive in close games. Of course, he stayed a longer time with us than Suarez, so the sample of exceptional moments with him is bigger.

I rate Suarez as a better player than Salah.

Not comparing their periods at Liverpool (where of course Salah takes it).

But purely football speaking, comparing their peaks, strengths, etc.

I didn’t closely follow his career after he went off, so I can’t tell if he still improved after leaving us. But in my opinion, if you consider the complete package, Mo is the superior player imo. And by that, I also mean on- and off-the-pitch behaviour.

THAT one season Suarez had with us - best player in the world. Messi and Ronaldo were in their prime but Luis was better imo.
No doubt Salah is the bigger Legend and overall better player but I refuse to believe that in the last 20 years there was a player who was able to carry a ‘bad’ team like Suarez did.

Salah could carry a good team to the title. But he couldn’t have carried the 13/14 team to title contention.

I wonder if people would have been more willing to overlook his flaws if he managed to drag us over the line that season. When I think of him, subconsciously, it’s hard to disconnect him from that heartbreak. Despite all his brilliance and controversy, the image that’s burned into my memory of his time here is when he broke down after that Palace game.

As for Salah vs Suarez… I love Salah but in a world without Messi or Ronaldo, Suarez would have picked up a handful of Ballon D’ors (the politics of that award aside).

But so would Salah.

And probably Virgil.

He’d been playing with a knee injury since at least February of that year but refused to have an operation on it until the end of the season.

I think he would have passed that. I was under the impression that the policy was directed more to outside of club behavior and as far as I can tell, he had zero issues outside the club, or for that matter in training. Every issue for him was match related, unless I missed something.
