Michael Car-wreck's at the wheel! It's the Manchester Untied thread

Carrick isn’t fit for the job. I understand that the ownership group doesn’t want to send the message that players can mutiny their way into a new manager, but Carrick is not a good manager and they’re going to end up sacking him, anyway.

My guess is that their preferred manager isn’t going to want to step in mid-season, and they don’t want to have to pay for yet another manager on top of Carrick. Howe is still under contract at Newcastle, so they’d have to buy him out, and they’re still paying Amorim and his staff (though I would suspect that his deal with AC Milan mitigates that).

I also think that they saw the fans applauding Carrick and immediately booing the players, and so they figured keeping Carrick was a good PR move.

But I think they’re just delaying the inevitable.

Honestly, you’d be amazed what you see and hear working in hospitality. People seem to confuse their bartender with a priest/therapist/lawyer.

Take the Rashford gambling thing. The only reason I know that is all the Utd supporting croupiers/dealers who come in to mine fuming that he’s pissed thousands away, not tipped, and not performed at the weekend.

Danny Drinkwater getting the shit kicked out of him in China White is easily google-able. As are pictures of Grealish asleep in 20 Stories, or Bernardo in Mojos. Wont be able to see Grealish online getting kicked out of Baby Platinum for deciding to get up on one of the poles and try dance though  Jason Orange is also a fan of Baby Platinum, and much better behaved than Grealish.

Hatton close protection used to work on the Jeremy Kyle Show many years ago. Hatton used to sit in the corner and get a lot of younger people coming up him not believing he was Hatton. Could see he didn’t enjoy that. Fury was a massive bloke, more than you realise when you see him in person.

According to the people I know from the Ivy, when Drake booked the venue out he was a pain in the arse and a tight fucker.

Basshunter is alright, polite and tips. Loves a drag queen.

Had a couple of Leeds Rhino lads in my gaffe a few weeks back. Very polite, not the brightest.

Asked my mate who the spitty spud was: Aaron Lennon.

Apparently the Jimreaper thought he could hire Howe for free because hes out of work but Newcastle want 6mil compo as he was under contract when he quit.

The odd thing is that the United fans I know rated Ole. At least they enjoyed it, and they think the club poisoned the water by inflicting Ronaldo on him.

Incidentally, I met Dara Ó Briain a couple of times, and he seemed a gent. Possibly, it was two science nerds recognising each other.

I totally get that. My cousin claims first hand knowledge of Giggs’ colombian recreational activities. My point is that if these criticisms of the players are valid then they didnt become unprofessional oiks in the past 3 months, yet back then Nev was in “we’re back” mode.

Yeah it’s weird. They think the feeling around the club was best when Ole was at the wheel, but there was also a massive amount of banter. Goldbridge was at his zenith as an icon of United comedy, Maguire was an international meme, McFred were running around in midfield looking like they’d won a raffle to play for Man United. Ole himself always looked like a hapless PE teacher on the sidelines, and Oleball was the tried and true mid block counter-attack shithouse football that we’ve talked about before.

But the fans at least enjoyed some good wins, there were some players like Rashford and Lingard and Bruno and Cavani etc that would produce moments of magic.

But in the midst of that there were a lod of embarrasing results and a feeling that Ole was never going to take them where they wanted, despite finishing a distant second during the Covid season (empty stadiums, condensed due to lockdowns, etc.) It was never sustainable long term, but I’ll guarantee you if you offered their fans a chance to go back and re-live the Ole days they’d snap your hand off.

Oh, yeah, the reactionary pundit shit is annoying, but tbf i dont think that’s limited to utd or neville. Think its just part and parcel of modern sports media. Just happens to be most notable with this lot given how many of their ex players are in the media circuit.

So far this season Chelsea have been title contenders and now too fragile. Utd have been back, and now back to rock bottom. City have been overcoming difficult times, to affected enough to lose to villa. We’ve been poor defensively and now have one of the better backlines in the league. Spurs have been relegation fodder and now look good for europe. Brighton have been title contenders and now have to content themselves with a European spot. Villa were toothless and now Nicholas Jackson is the striker Chelsea never should have sold.

Whats true today is wrong tomorrow, right again in a months time, then wrong again by the end of the season.

Happens all the time, forced attempts to create narratives and control the flow of the season. One of the many reasons I watch football with music playing through my headphones, saves me from listening to the utter drivel coming out of every pundit desperate for a quotable soundbite.

Good analysis again from the breakdown, soul destroying for the poor fella.

I was listening to the Libero guys talk about it today and they were understandably scathing about the depth of the rot, even going as far to call out Fergie for allowing the drop in standards to be introduced in his last couple of years. Yet when they finished it with a conversation about how to fix it, the conversation was just about the Carrick replacement is. Maybe its just a sloppily titled segment they’d appreciate a chance to fix in editing, but I think its representative if the challenge Utd have - the scale of the problem is so big that even people whose sober assessment acknowledges that, when it comes around to thinking about a fix the imagination isnt big enough to come up with an adequate solution so you end up just running through the things that have already been shown to be woefully insufficient, like just changing the manager.

Goldbridge is making more sense than any of the nobs at United. They need to sack Carrick and the Wilcox and Berrada and just start again. The rot is that deep. Problem is how to replace them all in the middle of the season. Is anyone worth their salt going to up sticks and head to United given the state they are in. Nope, not unless they are just after the money. Any manager or DoF with a shred of ambition is going to look at that shitshow and say no thanks.

I think most know this already. But unless the Glazers and INEOS sell, all they can hope for is moving the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Hey now, he’s the boss who proves you don’t need trophies to be a winner but he is a winner…

Third his first full season the year we won, and then second the following year. The football wasn’t great, but it was an unusually stable and harmonious period. Probably the only good two year spell they have had since Fergie. Ole knew the style of football they had been playing was too reactive and wouldn’t allow them to take the next step so worked with his back room to come up with a transfer plan that would allow them to play a more front foot style of football better equipped to face up to the sides to had resumed showing up to Old Trafford with the intention to simply not lose. Then Woodward bought him Ronaldo instead and retired. Its like farting in a lift right as it stops at your floor.

All Fergie was bothered about towards the end was title 20 and fully eclipsing Liverpool. Ive listened to him say it in after dinner speech the amount of smoke he was blowing up his own arse i thought a new pope had been elected.

He sold his soul to the devil for that last one. That squad had no business winning the league in 2013, how he managed to keep Van Persie fit for a whole season I’ll never know.

Squeezed every last drop he could out of the likes of Scholes/Rooney/Ferdinand/Valencia/Carrick etc. I remember when they won it in 2011 thinking it was the worst team to ever win the league, but this one eclipsed it. Lot of past-it old lads and a load of cloggers like Welbeck and Kagawa. There’s no doing that without some fucking Voodoo black magic shit going on.
