The sticking point on the Hendo contract was the length of it. Jordan wanted the security of a four deal to take him to 35 years of age.

The analysts and data bods at the club do look at this, and will have been advising on the kind of contract to offer Jordan, based on what value his data was suggesting we could expect from him.

I imagine with Edwards in place, those same conversations are going to take place over the older players - and they are not all the same. They might look at Salah and his data show that he is going to carry on until he’s 36. Robbo’s data might suggest a downturn is coming.

But there won’t be Klopp using his power to push those contracts through.

Hoorah!

Sometimes I wonder if people really just read too much into rumours.

Considering that he started his own consultancy when he left (that doesn’t seem to have gotten many clients), and is supposedly coming back into a different role, it could just be that he didn’t have any route for progression when he left and he decided to do something else.

On the face of it,this is great news, but exactly what his role will be needs to be defined,as it will be.
My concern is that if he has overriding power in the day to day management of the team,it could cause friction.
Really hope not!

2 out of 3 posts done. Time for Alonso to come onboard.

Also it’s good that FSG understand the power of continuity at any club. Having Edwards back who understands the club will help offset some of the loss of Klopp’ exit (with his pulling power as a manager)

My guess is that the coaches were sorted in January. Assuming that they are currently at another club it would be unfair to that club to make the announcement public. In the case of Alonso we are both in the same competition.

This bit is.interesting:

Edwards, who will help identify a 2nd club for FSG to buy

I don’t think the role of the coach is finalised just yet.

With Klopp leaving(and Jorg as well who was a stop gap arrangement) , we didn’t have a sporting director who could be part of appointing the next coach.

It’s not cast in stone that we would get Alonso. Depends on who Edwards has in mind.

I’ve long been hoping that FSG buy another football club. Seeing as the likes of City are ahead of us in that matter. Hope we buy a good club in Spain. We’ll have an entry into the Latin American and Spanish markets for youngsters and that club can be effectively used as a nice feeder of sorts.

Might get me interested in watching La Liga a bit more.

Yeah I had wondered about a Portugese club

Clearly, although my thing was that Edwards was essentially decided back in November. I have no evidence for this, just a hunch and knowing how FSG like to operate.

One thing is for sure. We’ve avoided the clusterfuck that United had done when they allowed the structure to go once Gill left. Appointing Edwards back to oversee the appointment of the next coach is a step in that direction.

I think the interesting dynamic here now will be far less Edwards & the new manager, but how the new Sporting Director (or whatever they are going to title that person) works under Edwards. and how much room Edwards gives that person to do their job. When you hire someone to do your old job, one that has a lot of responsibility and leeway for personal interpretation, it is difficult to stand back when they hit a fork in a road and go a different direction than you would have gone.
