My problem is it isn’t used as a positive for Salah it’s used as a but as in “Yeah Salah is good and scores a lot of goals but…” which is a way of diminishing him and his abilities. It’s also not accurate. The evidence for him being selfish is he doesn’t pass every time he has the ability to get there isn’t an attacker in the league as likely as Salah to create chances, meaningful chances and assists for his teammates. He’s by definition of what he achieves he is the least selfish attacker in the league. Even when looking at passing he really isn’t anywhere near as “bad” or “selfish” as made out but the focal point of attacks is never going to be as high in passing figures as those whose jobs are more involved in the build up. But he’s less than 3 passes per game fewer passes than Mane and less than 2 fewer than Bobby (on last season in the league used for examples) both of which are recognised as unselfish players. The difference is minimal the reputation and perception is massive.
Stats stats stats I watch a game and make up my own mindm I don’t rely or need stats to change my mind or to make my point like politicians do. Whats Mo’s stats on passing percentage?
No idea however I would like to see his dribble success stats season to season. That would be interesting as a comparison to what I percieve and the statistical ‘reality’.
As it’s a team game perception I feel is important as your looking at a whole not an individual and his strengths and weaknesses as others can and do cover the weakneses and profit from the strengths.
Last year in the league it was 5% lower than Mane 3% lower than Firmino. On average per game less than 3 passes less than Mane and less than 2 less than Firmino. But the highest number of key passes and assists. As I said the actual difference is minimal. Yet Mane and Firmino are (correctly) labelled as unselfish forwards. Salah, who of the three is set up to be the most attacking and closest to a point of attack as we have, now has this (almost universally accepted) reputation as being a selfish forward. It’s nothing but an attempt to cast shadow on him and what he’s achieving. I’m shocked that Liverpool supporters have allowed themselves to be pulled in (or completely independently form the same inaccurate opinions) but the truth is we have both the most creative and the highest scoring forward in the league who for some reasons doesn’t even make teams of the year.
By eck you just dont read what people write you are still trying with a statistical approach when I watch nearly every game. In the end Mo produces and that is what matters.
You appear to be arguing with no-one, everyone, yourself in the last 10 posts in this thread. Not sure a few in-game posts of “fuck sake Salah wish you had passed it, selfish bastard” really warrants your energy or the Salah lovefest monologues tbh.
Tbf, I don’t think he’s necessarily arguing with us in here but railing at the generalisations that are spouted out in other publications, forums, outlets etc. I also get fucking annoyed when some dipshit pundit invariably tries to stir up Mané vs Salah and they don’t like each other and Salah is selfish etc etc. Happens every week.
You literally asked for a stat which I gave. The problem with only using the eye test is you’re limited to either what you see from your position or what the camera shows. A reasonable and logical response to finding out the evidence doesn’t match what you believe you have observed is to at least be open to the possibility you may be wrong. You can’t simultaneously be watching all the players at all times and keep track of all the times each of them does certain things.
No, I have played enough, watched enough and have the necessary coaching knowledge in numerous sports to be able to judge what a player does or does not do on a pitch, stats are important for analysis but they don’t tell the whole story.
I like him now i’ve watched that,thanks @Livvy.
That means you don’t like Mané.
Or something.
Wait, so is he selfish or is he not?
I bet he didn’t blow all those balloons up #LazySalah.
Even on his daughter’s birthday he has to make it all about him, #IncredibleFather.
Selfish bastard
Incredible;
Does anyone really not appreciate him other than those silly tarts on twitter,he’s been breaking records ever since he’s been here.
People are in de Nile.
Scott, how did I do?
