Klopp has this fan base trained well, even after the deflating last week of the season, i was personally able to reflect that it was a successful journey, whether as years gone by i would have seen it as ‘all for no reason’
with that in mind, it really feels like Klopp (and i know hes not superhuman, there will be challenges that are too much for him, so i say this with trepidation) would just crack on and make the most out of any given scenario.
so wahst the positives of our two most potent weapons leaving this summer?
*fresh slate, as already outlined - a new set of players, a new hunger
*we keep the one player of the three that has always born a smile and positivity(remember the smirk when Mo and Sadio had their little handbags on the park a few seasons ago)
*frees the wage structure up from upwards pressure
*deletes any ‘natural’ heirachy going forward, i know they are on a squillion a week, proffessional footballers paid to do what Jurgen tells them to do, but subconciously, who has earnt the right to NOT pass it to Mo when he wants the ball…
*gives Klopp enough time to work towards his second great team
not suggesting its the BEST way, but i see alot of positives if it was to happen…again, Jurgen has me trained well…and thats a great thing
Agree with this and it is starting to wear really thin with me.
If he doesnt sign a new contract over the summer, imagine the constant noise throughout the season and poorly timed news at inappropriate times. I dont want a Mo media circus all season long.
If Mo is so confident he will maintain his playing level well into his thirties, he shouldn’t be too worried about the length of contract.
Presumably he backs himself to still be pushing out elite numbers when he is 33 or so. If thats the case, he should be confident of landing another decent contract upon expiry of a slightiy shorter one.
Before i start,I’d love Mo to stay for atleast another 4 years but i just can’t see it happening.
Although i could be totally wrong (which i don’t feel i am),i’m pretty much resigned to Mo not signing another contract with us,especially the way this whole saga is playing out in the media and it all sounding exactly the same as past players in the same position, who eventually left us.
Thinking aboug it lately,I’d honestly prefer us to cash in on him now and use the funds to rebuild our forward line for the future than to have him here for another season, talking shit with his agent about staying or going,or joining another club in the Prem or blaming LFC for not paying Cheating club wages to keep him here and Bull shitting the fans about it not being about money and us knowing the real reason, talking in riddles to justify what he wants.
I also think, all that tabloid shit and constant questioning about his contract will be a weight on his shoulders and make him perform like he has done since he came back from the AFCON.
Rip the plaster off and trust in Klopp to rebuild our team with players who want to be here and fight for the club and win things,we’ve lost top players in the past and replaced them,i don’t think it’ll be long before the next/ another under the radar top player joins the club.
Or
Trust in Klopp if he sees Mo as an integral part of next season. Rebuild gradually, not in a dramatic way that leaves too much to chance.
One uninterrupted season for Mo could yield a lot more than £50 million for an immediate transfer.
Like CymruRed says though , Mo announcing he’s not going anywhere next season isn’t going to put an end to the constant media frenzy about his future , and in turn us lot endlessly talking about it too. At the best it will be a distraction and at the worst unsettling and quite possibly detrimental to his form.
And for that reason , I am hereby recusing myself from any further discussion of it.
One downside to this contract malarkey dragging into next season, and this goes for the Sadio stuff as well, might well be their reluctance to put their bodies on the line for the LFC cause because a serious injury is the last thing they will both want with their contracts running down… This might mean Jurgen will have to get their intended replacements or implement his intended change of playing style ASAP anyways…
The funny thing is, the media frenzy only works because it gets people all up in arms, under the pretence that most of these media actually know shit about the internal workings of the club.
It has been proven time and again that they do not, and that any “information” coming out is usually leaked by the other party in an attempt to gain the upper hand in negotiations. That fans fall for this bullshit, enabling the leakers, is on them.
If a suitable offer comes in for Mo this summer, I’m sure the club will consider it. The key part will be what Mo wants to do as he has agency in all this. At that point I think he has made it clear that he wants to maximize his earning potential by going on a Bosman. That’s not set in stone, but it is very much looking that way.
If he stays next season it can play out two ways.
One, a fit and focused Mo has a brilliant season on the back of a rest this summer, a good preseason, and a nice mid season break with no World Cup involvement. He is playing for Liverpool, probably competing for the biggest prizes, while pursuing his personal goals and showing would-be suitors that they need to get their cheque books out for summer 2023.
On the other hand, it’s not difficult to imagine there might be rumblings and briefings along the way about his contract situation, and they could become a distraction, and depending on what is said, it might even strain MO’s relationship with LFC.
I suspect it will be a little from column A and a little from column B.
I’m getting uncomfortable with the Salah situation. It’s been long since we had any uneasiness in our dressing room. But having a high-profile player who clearly has one foot out of the team isn’t an ideal environment.
When Mo says that, it seems disingenuous to me. Of course it is about the money! There may be other factors too - length of contract being offered, new challenge, new club, new place - but of course it is about the money!
Some mental gymnastics is required here. When Mo says it is about being respected, and regarded as one of the very best in the world, the measure he is using is, erm, MONEY!
But it’s not about the money. It’s about respect. Oh, and I will know how much I am being respected by the quantity of money on offer.
I think this situation is uncomfortable because people keep discussing it on the forum, which only adds to people’s anxiety - in the same way the discussion is taking place in the Mane thread about him moving.
My fear is that Mo stays and runs out his contract with plans to sign for another club, but that even with his best intentions he can’t reach the form of the past, the fans accuse him of downing tools and things go from bad to worse.
Unfortunately it’s very easy for me to imagine scenarios where things end less than amicably between Mo and the fans by him staying the extra year, even if it’s what I think should happen for on-field continuity.
