A compelling rebuttal to the annual calls to toss tens of millions of £s around, just so we aren’t “standing still”.
Not if Nike are going to foot the bill like when we signed Mbappe…

exactly. I like the low-salary/high performance bonus system that it seems LFC employs.
If you want to earn £300k/week, earn it by winning games and scoring goals/clean sheets and trophies. Otherwise, here’s the standard
Transalpino style.
Think he rejected the PSG contract rather than ours according to the post

for him to reject a contract, the club would have allowed PSG to offer him one
Wouldn’t that mean we would have accepted an offer for him? @Kopstar ?
Not necessarily.
but isn’t a club approaching a player under contract, considered “tapping up”?

Without the permission of the owning club, yes.
If FSG said they can get £150m for Mo in the summer…
Then say they will spend £100m on extending the Kop capacity by 10,000 within 3yrs…
then give Jurgen £50m for his transfer kitty…
I wonder how many fans would agree with that proposal, in that the larger Kop would remain for ever…!
I cannot imagine LFC would allow that conversation to take place without a number being agreed to?

It seems unlikely, I agree but it’s not unheard of.
IF and that is a big IF that there are Liverpool supporters who think that we do not need to extend Salah’s contract tonight must have been their wake-up call.
Yes because he’s been on fire in recent weeks too?
What do you want to imply?

9 goals and assists in his last 10 games? Is that… supposed to be bad? Because nobody else has got more than 14 yet (Trent an Jota). So maybe Salah isn’t a problem recently or not? I mean he scored 7 of our 17 CL goals and has been responsible for 25 out of 52 goals in the league. If we’re at the stage were he is considered a problem or not useful to have on the pitch fuck knows what we are supposed to do with the rest!
Ofcourse him singing a new contract is important. But he won’t be here or may not perform at same levels forever. The rest of the squad growing and moving to the next level is pretty important as well.
I thought we were no longer a one man team after the Madrid CL debacle, but the rest aren’t keeping or increasing their levels for whatever reasons (motivation injuries etc) the way Mo has been.

Predictable response to a frustrating evening. First of all I think that all Liverpool fans first and foremost would want Salah to sign a new contract. That’s never been up for debate.
What has been debated is if we should pay him whatever he demands irrespective of the knock on effects of that.
If we cannot agree terms with him that are suitable for both the player and the club, then it’s a case of sell this summer or let him leave on a free.
Either way, we would then make moves to have him replaced with a suitable player. We would not be playing with Jota, Bobby and Taki as out front three as a long term plan, and we wouldn’t be facing an eight man defence evey week. For me had they not had a player sent off and we had lined up with Mane, Bobby and Jota then we probably would have won.
Yes, Salah, please sign a new contract, but not because of one result last night, but because he is a great player who we want to keep for a few more years.
Under the laws of the game, yes, but it goes on and in a large number of cases, it is actually encouraged.
Clauses like minimum release fee, or release fees for teams in C/L are clearly designed to allow a player/agent to look around whilst still being under contract. I remember Warnock a few years ago talking about the transfer process and he used his time at Palace as an example.
The story was he wanted a player, so got Simon Jordon to approach the players’ club to seek permission, and the club asked if he had contacted the player to see if they were interested. Jordan told the chairman, no as we need your permission and the chairman said well you need to ask the player if they are interested before we will discuss any possible deal. So how can Palace approach said player without tapping them up, but the club says you need to speak to the player before we will negotiate a transfer?
Also, this was part of the issue we had with Saints when we signed VVD. He had an agreement with saints that he could go to a club in C/L, and the definition of being in C/L was different between us and Saints as we were still in the last round of qualifying, but they were saying it only applied to teams in the C/L proper - lucky for us we got through, although Warner did his best to screw the deal anyone when he got the verbals after a couple of bevvies which pissed Saints off even more which lead to them deciding to play hardball
I’ve said all along prepare yourself for him leaving.
its rumored that Salah wants £400k a week - thats cheap for the worlds best player. But FSG want to be the best without paying the going rate.
Allison, Fabinho, VVD, TAA all done relatively quickly yet this one’s dragging.
Only thing I can think of is that FSG want the new deal (if there is one) to start next summer and not now so they can save the increase in wages over remainder of season.
FSG are just not interested in investing in this team and I think they are happy for Mo to go.
