Sure, money will be high on the list.
I think its fair to say that referees wont give a free kick unless you go to ground. I donāt think Iāve seen a penalty given where a player gets contact and keeps his feet. It just doesnāt happen.
Salah is one of those players that will keep on his feet under all circumstances. I would say its a matter of pride with him that he wont be brought down by a player unless its very forcibly. Thats why we see him in these tussles where heās clearly being held and tugged and attacked and he wont get anything unless he starts waving his arms and pleading with the ref for a free kick.
Now compare that to the way either Jota or Mane plays and they will be actively playing the smart game and trying to gain ground, and certainly wont be afraid to hit the floor (Iām not going to get into the unfairness of Mane not getting calls here in the Salah thread) if under a challenge.
This is absolutely not a defence of the refs, because clearly they should be calling the shots according to the rules and not whether a player kisses the dirt, but I do think the way Salah plays, which IMO is very unique amongst forwards, heavily influences how heās positioned in a graph like this.
Ballon dāOr
I very much can. he was brought in for around 30M if I remember right, and his wages are likely in the 180-200k region already. will be leaving here for a fat contract that LFC didnāt have to pay for, and at least FOUR medals for major trophies won.
good business by LFC bringing him in, paying him a fair wage. now Salah will have spent 5 years under Klopp learning how the best manager in the world works, and maybe he takes that as a career path in the future back to Egypt to improve their national football program?
itās a win/win for both, heās still rich beyond most peopleās comprehension. itās just about attitude and the fucking media circus which accompanies professional sports. the latter is a steaming pile of shit, IMO. Media and agents have ruining the upper eschelon of the sport.
*** edit ***
iāve been looking at Maneās reactions recently. He must be watching this Salah circus with interest as heās making about half of what Mo makesā¦which is something that should be corrected before Salah. Let him and Bobby renegotiate for $200-220k each (marginal bump for bobby) and see what Mo does.
I vaguely remember it happening just once, interestingly enough for a foul on Salah. After that we didnāt get anything for a whileā¦
Liverpool will not sell for under 75m I would expect, if Juve pay that then Iād be surprised.
Thatās about all you need to know
Pundits - That was clearly a foul but the ref didnt give it. Maybe Salah needs to be a bit cleverer there and go down
Also Pundits - Salah went down very easily there. He might have been held a bit but it wasnt enough to make him go down
Never Pundits - You know, thatās just poor refing. Why do they only gives these fouls when players force them to by diving? The refs need to do better.
Anything below 100m would have to be turned down surely
We are still talking about selling the best striker around.
We are still talking about Mbappe coming to Liverpoolā¦
Put those two things together.
I hope and pray we reach agreement with Salah, because replacement is simply not an option.
Probably.
Just a reminder that itās thd international break, so probably worthwhile ignoring 99% of transfer stories.
He has one year leftā¦ Unless it is the crazies at RM or PSG we would be lucky to see even 60M to 70M.
What is the record for a player with 1 year left anyways?
Frankly with his supposed openness (via Romano) to joining another PL clubā¦ I would take it to send him to another league. If Salah really joined City it would set us back for a few years.
I know it is probably the agentās negotiation tactic, but if they are ready to play that card in negotiations then I think we might need to consider it.
I trust the club to turn Jota, Diaz or whoever they buy into the next golden boot winner with less money.
Itās all the same cost to anyone buying him this summer or on a free, they either pay a transfer fee or a huge signing on fee. Hence why I think heāll go on a free if he does leave.
wifeā whatācha up to in there red?ā
redbjā just looking up some statistics on the webā
We are not replacing Salah, we will bring in a player but at the moment we can afford that player regardless.
If the club think letting him leave on a free is better than 50m in the bank (that any selling club will probably want a chunk of anyhow) then Iām cool with that.
Real allegedly offered e170 million for Mbappe last summer knowing they would likely be able to land him free the following year.
If this happens I hope he is still remembered with affection as a club legend. Iāve no problem with it as long as he keeps giving his best until his contract ends. āRunning down his contractā can also be described as āhonouringā his contract, and he has every right to do so.
Hope he signs a new one though!
and thatās exactly it. Heās a fantastic footballer but his contract is only for 5 years and if he wants to move at the end of that contract, itās within his power to do so. Itās also within the clubās power to not pay him more than the club believes his worth to them is. if heās asking for more than theyāre willing to give, then theyāll part ways amicably. Or not. It doesnāt matter, in the big picture. weāve seen players leave for greener pastures and succeed, and others have failed.
Anyone who really has an issue with that, well they must live in a very interesting world.
More failures - Owen, Torres, Meireles, Coutinho, Wijnaldum
than successes - Suarez, Sterling
Any others?
We have already replaced Salah.
