Maybe the club should consider giving Mo whatever he wants. Then again, what can you give to someone who already has a McLaren F1?

Last week, Arne Slot told reporters there is “no reason to think [Mohamed Salah] is dropping in terms of level” and referenced the longevity of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

As if wanting to justify his manager’s words, Salah assisted twice in the subsequent 4-0 thrashing of Bayer Leverkusen. He was then electrifying in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat of Aston Villa - scoring and assisting to send the Reds five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Not only is he not slowing down, the 32 year old may even be speeding up.

Saturday took Salah to 10 goals and 10 assists in all competitions for the season with eight and six respectively in the Premier League.

This is a goal contribution of 1.31 per 90 so far in the league - the highest of his whole career and more than in his record-breaking debut Liverpool season in 2017-18 (1.30).

The Egypt international looks really sharp and direct under Slot. His progressive carries per 90 of 3.64 is his highest since 2021-22 and his second highest since arriving in England. His carries into the penalty area per 90 of 3.36 is his highest in the Premier League.

He is also finding greater success running at players this season, with 1.68 successful take-ons per 90 his highest since 2021-22 and 51.4% of take-ons being successful his highest since 2019-20.

His ruthlessness seems to be increasing too with 58.1% of his shots in the Premier League going on target being the highest of his career.

Talk over Salah’s contract will inevitably rumble on until his future is decided, but his sparkling form and Slot’s fine start are evidently interlinked.

If he is to continue into his late 30s, providing anywhere near the output the aforementioned Messi and Ronaldo have, then surely the hierarchy at Anfield will see an extension as a priority.

Especially now he has shown he can thrive - and perhaps even improve - in the post-Jurgen Klopp era.

Salah is remarkably unselfish in his play… And he’s been even more so the further he goes into this career.

I just want Virgil and Salah to see off their career with us. Give them both a 3 year deal.

I won’t mind him going on and I’ve said this before as well. But it’s time that both legends get to see out their career in a Liverpool shirt.

For me, the club and the team always comes first and where do legends (which they already are) officially end their careers (or their peaks) is much less important. In today’s game, it’s actually not a situation you want to see at your club. We have to remain competitive (or in our case, return to winning the biggest trophies more often) and certain players these days show their ability to prolong their careers and have more options to continue somewhere until they’re really done with playing.

It’s why negotiations are not as straightforward as some might think, especially when there’s big changes happening to numerous key decision makers at a club, like it is the case here. All part of the reasons why sometimes you end up in a situation like this and it takes a while to get sorted. See Barca when they had a few important, older players. Have to be prudent and plan well. Also, nobody can get whatever they want on a new contract. It’s just irresponsible.

I liked the part of Salah’s last interview up there with Kelly, Ali and Robbo where he talks about the club’s ambitions and targets. I hope we don’t lose a lot of that in the near future, as we will have less and less of the old guard from Klopp.

For players like that, winning a few domestic cups since 2020 to at least 2024 is alright, but not enough. Regardless of the competition or whatever else.

I hope we have more new players of a similar mindset.

I meant the wage bill permitting. Don’t want to get into the Barca rut.

But it is with Virgil more than Mo.

We need to hold on to Virgil.

But he’s not getting better. If goals and assists were the sole determinants of quality then even ManUtd might be able to pick good players

Regardless, we need to extend him.

Goals, assists, humble guy loved by fans and his teammates. What else do you want?

Five years younger.

That’s why he is a top player. He doesn’t talk shit through media. He makes himself relevant on the field, makes himself a necessity. Makes Liverpool FC a difficult decision to make. With his form, if LFC doesn’t extend him, there will be plenty of top clubs who would fight to sign him, even at his age.

Yeah, that’s his position of strength in negotiations. Even years later, after spending almost €200m on our last 3 forwards, being our oldest forward, he’s the only one hitting serious numbers and consistently. Of course, numbers work in a way that you can’t really have 3 Salahs, but the fact remains he’s still comfortably our main goalscorer.

A mind-blowing stat.

If only Mo was a little more ‘clever’ and a little less African/Muslim

Its completely absurd

How dare you suggest that the fine upstanding men of unimpeachable reputation that are the Premier League referees might have any bias whatsoever???
