Mohamed SALAH: 2024/25

I can’t imagine anyone daring to against Elisha Scott.

Arsenal still do it.

The other factor is the height of the goalkeepers these days. Elisha Scott was only 5’ 10".

My father’s favourite player of all time and he often told me about him. As a kid I always thought it was such an exotic name

We will see what happens. As it stands, with nothing signed, he’s off. Let’s see what he decides to do. We will pay him well and he will have a chance to continue to compete for the top honors. There might be one or two teams who could offer him similar, though not many teams. Will he want the disruption/new start? And then of course he could step down a football level, or more, to take the Saudi dough.

Personally I think Mo will not have another season as good as this one. He won’t drop off a cliff, but I can’t see him keeping this up. AFCON is next year too, and he has form for that disrupting him. I hope he stays, but not at any cost. And if he goes, I look forward to seeing how Slot rebuilds the attack.

The priority for me has always been in this order: Virg, Mo, Trent.

He’s on track of smashing the 44 G+A single season record… but you know… doesn’t do anything besides that. :joy:

Pffft. He’d already have broken the record if he would pass to his teammates. Or shoot properly.

I hope he sees the value of having an AFCON-free season.

And to think some ejiits (won’t name names but a certain five star fuckwit on here) thought he should have been sold last summer to fund a replacement while the dollars were on the table.

To be fair, his form had been stagnating in Klopp’s system for the last couple of seasons. He was still scoring, but his overall contribution to the team had waned and he was going through long spells of horrendous form. Since the team was going through a rebuild of sorts, some felt that selling him to Saudi or somewhere for silly money might be a good way to finance the rebuild.

Still, I’m glad we didn’t sell him and I’m glad he plays for us. An absolute beast of a player who will be remember as an all-time great for Liverpool and in the Premier League.

While it wasn’t a view I personally held, I don’t think it was necessarily a bad one.

He is in such a bizarre place in his career now. So much less of a player than he was 5 years ago, when on any measurement he was one of the very best in the game ever. So obviously in decline…and yet such remarkable output. Every game makes the case for letting him move on at the end of the year, and for signing him to a new contract. At some point the goals are going to dry up too, but that may not be next year. What is one more season of this production worth? Hard to think of a player you could slot in as a replacement regardless of cost.

Schroedinger’s winger.

Did anyone see the Overlap show on Tuesday where there was an expert on Transfers and contracts? He said that he thinks that the club will keep VVD and TAA but will let Mo go.
He said the club have all the info on players declining and its not uncommon for a player to have a great season in his final year, sign a new deal and then break down/decline etc.

Ive found it -

Is Salah the same player he was 3 or 4 years ago? No but his stats are off the chart. Id be amazed if he started to decline next season - he has adapted his game as I think he has become more clever and skillful. Pick and chooses his moments. His stats are far better than younger players who do a lot more running etc. Its about what you do with the ball not having the ball a lot and do nothing with it.

I still think Mo and VVD stays and TAA goes

I suspect it comes down to how long of a contract he is willing to sign. I doubt the club will go past two years because of the expectation that his decline could be sudden. They would probably be quite willing to pay him very well next year, after that it is tricky. He may well be able to get a 5-year contract in another league.

Salah has modified his game quite a fair bit…

While he doesn’t sprints as far in a foot race now, but he makes it up with creativity and good decision making…

For the most part. He still has some poor passing in him, and the right side is a weakness because Salah isn’t tracking back as much when Trent overlaps and the ball is turned over. These are flaws that we have to learn to live with though, and if TAA goes it’ll change quite a bit. We’ll need to bring in a top RB because it looks like Bradley can’t stay healthy based on the last 18 months or so.

Based on absolutely nothing at all, but I have a feeling that for him (and Virg) there might be a question of international football as part of this. I’d be happy to give them both three years, but only if they knocked their national teams on the head.
