Mohamed SALAH: 2024/25

This is probably why I think he will actually stay.

A desire to push as far up the list as possible? Reaching 200 is starting to get within sight.

Kane might find his way back at some point mind.

Half of those were deflected.

So he’s basically a backup RB? Yeah Arne is making sure FSG change that contract offer.

Thierry Henry is, imo, one of the best players ever.

Mo will overtake him for PL goals this year.

Just sublime. What a player.

I was talking to a fellow Liverpool fan yesterday and saying Mo is failing the eye test, but passing eloquently when it comes to stats, he just seems to produce one or two moments a match that is a goal or leads to a goal.

I don’t know what the issue is but Salah and Virgil should get another 2 years contract it is a total no brainier . During those two years we can look for a suitable replacement for both.

What if they’re each asking for £500k a week?

I have no doubt that both players have been offered contracts, but the club is being cautious in not handing massive wages to players in their thirties and whose form could potentially decline at any time, if it hasn’t already done so.

Also, as we know, the other issue is other performing players then wanting to be on equivalent wages,

But they won’t be asking for that.

I doubt either would be asking for a significant increase on what they’re making now and it’s more likely the issue is contract length at the amount they’re asking for.

There is a risk with physical decline but there’s a huge risk in whoever you bring in not settling, not being able to hit the level, or not adjusting to the league.

There’s also the fact that whoever you’d bring in to replace these guys would need to be paid and they’d be a transfer fee. Let’s say Mo was asking for £500k a week for two years. That’s a £52m commitment. Can we find someone who’ll outperform Mo over the next two years for the same combined fee and wages? £40m fee plus £115k a week isn’t going to go that far in the current market for a left footed forward. But if he wanted a three or four year deal at that level then bringing in a new player would start to look more appealing.

I get the caution given their ages but every week they’re proving their value to the team.

The signing on fee’s will be a significant factor.

Mbappe got ÂŁ85m. Obviously neither of Virg or Mo would command such a fee, but it could be another ÂŁ50m to get the pair over the line. Mbappe is only(!!) on circa ÂŁ250kpw though so he took a massive chunk upfront.

Do players normally get those when signing new deals at current clubs? Thought that was more a sweetener offered by clubs trying to tempt players away.

Forget same fee and wages, can you find someone who will outperform Salah at all?

If not, the answer would be what’s the next best option and how much would that cost? The club doesn’t seem fond of bringing players who are already there, we seem to prefer signing players at the point of exploding into success, like Salah himself, ManĂ© to a lesser extent, Diaz, Jota, Gakpo, Szoboszlai, Wijnaldum, Fabinho, KeĂŻta, Robertson, KonatĂ©, etc.

They won’t come particularly cheap, but they will tend to come younger and on lower wages, meaning they could deliver for longer on more manageable terms.

Deciding whether or not to renew your 2 most important/influential players (still) shouldn’t even be a debate, yet somehow it is.

Has this got Edwards fingerprints over it? Is he trying to prove a point with the whole Hendo saga?
