We also did in fact beat West Ham in the first one, which provided the justification for keeping the run going. And while we didnt win this weekend we at least scored 3 goals so hardly a performance where you can claim Mo was the missing ingredient preventing us getting a win.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein is reporting that Mohamed Salah is expected to be left out of Liverpool’s Champions League squad for their trip to Inter Milan.
He adds that it underlines the support for Arne Slot but it is not viewed as a punishment for Salah.
Board decision apparently. Probably the right one because it would be a total distraction otherwise.

I don’t think Gary was generally known for putting a shift in, so he may have natural sympathy with Mo in that regard.
The point he misses is that without Mo in the team the performances have improved, and we’ve won one and drawn two of the one’s he’s missed.
With Mo in the team before that, we’d been losing them all.

Yeah only 3 goals conceded against Leeds and only took Chiesa last min goal line clearance to earn a point. Nice new progress that.
All this sugarcoating of the situation is giving me a stomachache.

Performances have improved? Fuck me, but the bar is low then. We lost the lead twice against Leeds and drew Sunderland in an uninspiring display. In fact, we looked a lot better when Mo came on in that match.

Personally I’m hugely disappointed in Salah’s outburst. To me uou just dont go washing your dirty laundry in public.
The club is bigger than any individual, and has Salah deserved his place on the bench over a starting one? Yes in my opinion, but he’s not alone in that. If he’s pissed off? Good go and start working to find some form.

I’m not saying the bar isn’t low. It couldn’t get much lower. It wasn’t much fun getting dicked by Forest and PSV.
I think it’s undeniable that the team has looked better the last three. It’s still nowhere off where we need to be, but it is better.
But objectively, taking 5 points from 9 is better than taking 0 from 9.
I think for 70minutes the performance against Leeds was the best we’ve seen for a while. We were done by a moment of individual stupidity and the following collective mental breakdown.

Nobody is sugarcoating it mate. Even if we’d got the win I think we deserved against Leeds, and got 7 points from 9, it’s still nowhere near where we need to be.
But I think the performances have improved a bit from the nadir against Forest and PSV.

Also, on Saturday we’re 2-0 five minutes into the second half. Is that the time to bring Mo on? Then in the space of two minutes we go back to 2-2 around the 75th minute. You wouldn’t make an immediate attacking change after the first and you certainly don’t after the second. And then five minutes later we’re ahead again.
Now, here’s where he brings on Isak and leaves Mo on the bench. You could argue Mo is a better outlet if Leeds are going to chuck the kitchen sink at us and leave space in behind. I can imagine that being the moment Mo is left wondering what’s going on.
I think he’d be entitled to ask that question of Slot and get an answer on what the manager was thinking but also he can’t expect to be given preferential treatment if he thinks Isak is the better option at that time, maybe because his aerial ability might help more on defending set pieces for example.

I would think that whatever has happened between Mo and Slot was a thing before the game.

Isak is also very fast in his own right so is a great option if you want to keep the counter attack threat present. Given Hugo still hasnt got through 90 mins often that was seemingly a change as much to replace him as to bring on Isak, and we know Mo doesnt want to carry the burden of playing centrally…

No surprise there. What kind of precedent would it set if Mo goes on a public rant and that results in him being re-inserted into the squad, let alone the starting lineup!
I would have bet my mortgage on Souness reacting along those lines.
I’m just disappointed he didn’t work a swipe at Pogba into it somewhere.

I don’t know if he is out the door or not. I’ve seen some speculation today that he has already agreed a deal somewhere, and this outburst is about saying ‘it’s not me guv, they want me out’. I think that’s a bit fanciful, but it might be untenable now to carry on.
Whatever, I don’t think that he should be involved in Inter or Brighton. Then it’s AFCON anyway, and we won’t see him until February. Just from a practical point of view I don’t see how Slot can reintegrate him for one game, only for him to go off to the competition afterwards.
