I think the writing was on the wall for Mo the moment those signings were made in the summer. Probably both he and the club could have expected a final glorious season before he was moved on , but unfortunately his form has not only precluded that but has also contributed to the dire predicament we find ourselves in. Slot ultimately made the right call and Salah just can’t accept no longer being the star man. His outburst should prove to be his parting shot.
Nothing Carra said was out of line, he responded openly and honestly & he’s right, Liverpool essentially made him the player he is and he needs to remember that it’s about the club…fans, manager, staff and team mates before making it all about me, myself and I. He was also right to remind people this isn’t the first time Mo’s pulled this kind of stunt and made his feelings known in public. Let’s not forget why we’re here in the first place.
As with Trent, we were/are great for each other.
It’s not “we’ve made them the player they were/are” or “all the success we had was down to them”.
I deleted my response to @dalglish because its not worth engaging. The inane accusations aside, there is no point in debating with self proclaimed fuckwits.
He has an issue with the hierarchy, not the club. And just as much as Liverpool
gave him the platform to perform. He also has the God-given talent to be able to perform at that level. Players like him don’t grow on trees. The whole “Liverpool made him“ narrative pretends as if you can stick any old footballer next to Sadio and Bobby and they score 25 goals a season. Frankly laughable.
Why don’t you stick someone of Carra’s ilk in front and let’s see how Liverpool “make him”
It’s still confusing who he was referring to when he said that someone doesn’t want him at the club anymore.
And those “it always happens to me” talks, when else did it happen? It’s the first time he’s in this situation and we’re bloody lucky altogether that we had such an amazing time together since 2017.
Regardless when and how it ends.
Not to mention that it helps with the ratings and clicks.
Carragher may have been mostly right in what he said, but if his priority was truly the good of the club, he would have tried to tone it down and not use his public platform to make it worse.
Regardless of the talent he had, he wouldn’t have had half the career he’s had if we hadn’t invested the money, time and effort from the coaches to make him the player he was - when Chelsea were quick to turn him away - we were the ones that picked him back up, we saw the vision and no one else, he should be a little mindful of that next time he rushes to the media to boost his own ego and protect his own interests.
This is factually wrong. Salah was doing well in Italy before we picked him up.
I also think Carra shouldn’t have been so condescending about Salah’s career. It was arrogant and unnecessary. He was also disparaging Salah’s home country and his previous clubs, and it was getting personal. But perhaps that’s the worldview of an Englishman who has never gained experience or achieved success anywhere other than England. In his self-absorbed English perspective, everything Mo has achieved before simply doesn’t count. I find that repulsive. But we know what kind of audience it’s for.
He has done well everywhere he’s been, and the only aberration to that was Chelsea, and more down to them buying him when they didn’t need him and not having a clue what to do with him.
We did try to sign him in the January of 2014 from Basel, which is when Chelsea can in an gazumped us.
I hope things settle between himself and the coach after AFCON. I think everyone would like to see him leave LFC a hero/legend and not on a bitter note.
I think there’s a lot of overraction over prognosis what will happen next.
Even the main actors might not have a clue yet. They might know more than they say in public or what’s being reported, but who knows exactly.
Outside it’s portrayed like it’s over, Salah will wave goodbye against Brighton and sign for a Saudi club on January 1st for an astronomical fee.
Let’s see what happens, we might still function together in a respectable enough manner, if he’s still a Liverpool player when his AFCON campaign ends or until the end of this season.
Also, there’s the Slot aspect, more reports coming in that he still has faith from the board, but will not be limitless and will depend on results. When that limit is, that’s anyone’s guess.
The irony! Never go near quicksand ![]()
The question that still doesnt have a very clear answer is what he was trying to get out it.
Some people are assuming this was just Mo being emotional and lashing out, but the journos who were there made clear this was not how it went down. It was not a spur of the moment thing and he was calm in the way he spoke. Mo is known to be very deliberate in the way he speaks to the press to get what he wants. People remember the “more out than in” comment from last year during the contract negotiations, but people forget that he did a similar thing very early in the season, making a very clear point that he wanted to enjoy the win against Utd because with the contract situation it might be the last time he ever gets to play there. It was subsequently reported that the Liverpool brass were completely non-plussed by any of those comments because they knew Mo was going to use the press in that way and so already factored it in.
I think it is a reasonable assessment that everyone close to the situation is ruling out this just being an emotional outburst without a specific outcome he was trying to get, so what was the goal?
Did he think he could generate enough support from the fans that Slot felt pressured to put him back in the side? That seems difficult to imagine given the looming presence of AFCON.
Has he decided he isn’t going to stick around and play the role he now sees for himself so went nuclear to make the club brass think a sale was the only way out? That seems difficult to believe as if this did represent Mo’s new reality surely the club would be very open to finding him an exit to get those wages off the books if they were only going to a sub? Maybe the club have already shut that talk down and this is his response to force that? But that doesnt seem likely for what I said above, but mainly because of how rapidly this situation developed. You would think it would take more than a week of behind the scenes stand off to develop to a point where he felt going nuclear was his only option.
Trying express his displeasure with the manager to put pressure on the club to axe Slot or risk losing him is an idea some have put forward, but he made far too many allusions to the betrayal running deeper than Slot for that to seem viable.
I refuse to believe that someone as calculating as Mo didnt have a specific end game in mind for doing this, but none of the ones that have been proposed really make sense to me for this to be the strategy to get what he wants.

I think the obvious explanation is that he hoped it would put pressure on Slot/whoever was manager to play him. Ultimately I think he’s decided he’d rather leave liverpool than sit on the sidelines cheering us on for the remainder of the season.
Don’t think that’s the case. Otherwise he wouldn’t be talking about being made a scapegoat for the team’s downturn. That sounds like someone who does give a shit about the team.
I think it speaks to a fragile ego, actually. Made the scapegoat because he was dropped for 2.5 games? Harden up Mo.
It’s still confusing who he was referring to when he said that someone doesn’t want him at the club anymore.
This is a point that cannot be overlooked. Mo is very deliberate and to the point when he wants to be so its notable, and not a good look, that he refused to actually name the conspiracy there was against him.
