The fundamental problem is that this is an open-bid auction where the player (or his agent(s?)) holds the gavel. Brighton has been saying since June that they would accept the highest price. That was us, but the player has not brought the gavel down, we are in the ‘going twice’ call now.

Think we have had a cracking transfer window so far .

Two players in highly regarded.
Few sicknotes let go, one even gets injured for new club whilst warming up.
Saudi Arabia create a retirement league for some of our older players.
Chelsea spending a quadrillion pounds on everyone and then seem to be struggling to actually pay to be in line with FFP.
United make a mega money deal for someone with a back injury, not noticing he turned up in a wheelchair for his medical.

And as it stands Maguire is still at United .
