Sorry, you’ve lost me…
I did say it depends on a club that Keita will accept a move to.
But I think you are 1 underestimating how much better Keita is than most clubs best players and 2 how bad some transfers actually are.
Injuries don’t stop even the best run clubs from sometimes signing players. Ramsey to Juve, Robben to Bayern, Thiago to us, Vermaelen to Barcelona. Loads of examples of even top clubs signing injury plagued players who continued to miss games after the moves. Then you’ve got the next level down who need top players to try and compete with the top clubs. They have to try and take what they can get sometimes the likes of your Valencias, Fiorentinas, Dortmunds etc. sometimes aren’t able to be that fussy. Look where Aquilani went or Goetze after leaving Bayern.
I’m only stating opinion and yes it is conjecture but I admit it. But statements like nobody would ever want Keita are over the top and unrealistic.
Clubs will want him. But can they afford wages he will accept? Will he accept the move to a club that wants him? Will we accept what they are offering? Those are the sticking points.
We can sort out the wages, he will have 12 months with us. If we really have to we pay some of the transfer fee to him to compensate him on any difference in income for that first year.
How much we will accept as a fee is 100% within our control.
The only thing not in our power is whether another club can woo Keita. I don’t see Klopp and LFC being forceful enough in persuading him that he’s not wanted here enough that it’s best for him to move on. It’s not Klopps style. I think Keita will be here till 2023 and leave for free.
Let’s not miss-quote, it was clearly stated “last summer”. Keita is a great player, yes clubs would want him… But a summer where money is tight after covid? No-one is buying him. Same with Oxlade, hence why we have 2 injury prone players in our midfield.
I dont remember if Gerrard was sent there or the specialist came in, but it happened. But more important, part of his program was a restriction on the amount times he could play 2 games a week. This is one of the reasons we brought in Gary Mac, so we had the bodies available for the games for which Gerrard’s fragile body was not ready
You’re still saying nobody would buy him. It’s unrealistic and definitive. Surely it’s down to factors? Or are you saying clubs would have rejected him playing for them for £5m on a pay as you play contract?
Aye.
It wasn’t long ago people were saying Matip shouldn’t be offered a new contract. Now they’re miffed when he doesn’t start.
Now you are being silly. So your strawman argument is we could have sold him for £5mil and he’d accept a pay as you play contract. Haha fuck me, even for you that’s poor.
No I’m arguing against the ridiculous “no club would buy/would have bought him” claims.
He’s an elite level athlete playing at the highest pinnacle of a massive sport. On playing ability he’s a starter for one of the best clubs on the planet.
Even with injuries to say NO club would want to buy him is quite simply ridiculous.
As I’ve said several times it comes down to what we will accept in terms of fee, what he would accept in terms of wages and whether he would accept the move to the club that wants him.
And as I said several posts ago:
Would I be canceled if everytime I hear pulled hamstrings, I think of pulled pork burgers?
Difficult to imagine why he was called up with his injury status coupled with meaningless dead rubber matches.
bit of a stretch here, but is it a way he could get home to loved ones?
COVID, maybe contractual obligations at LFC dunno…i know im clutching at straws, just speculating
On the contrary, it would be difficult to imagine them not calling him up the way it has been going on for him
Their national team does that. Recently, Partizan rescinded the contract of his international teammate Seydoubah Soumah, who was ironically their most expensive transfer ever. Extremely talented in comparison to the rest of his teammates but somewhat prone to smaller injuries and largely inconsistent - does it ring a bell? Why did they rescind his contract - amid allegations of breaching the club’s disciplinary protocols, the situation culminated when he got injured before an international break, got called up to the national team and he answered the call even though he was injured and he even played as a sub in one of those matches.
It’s not the whole story, the player claimed otherwise but even though I don’t have much faith in people who operate the club, I choose to believe Partizan’s coach on this one, having seen Soumah relatively often.
As retold, that doesn’t sound legal given the priority international teams are given to players.
No NT games for two months , I’m feeling hopeful
Almost out for 4 weeks now again and tomorrow will be the 5th consecutive game he misses.
Positive about him is that usually when he returns he doesn’t need much game time to deliver - similar to Matip.
I think Club and player are desperately trying to get him fit for a run of 10 games to justify a contract extension for all parties but I just can not see it happen.
Would be wise to manage his games and minutes but it is a difficult situation and pressure on him and the club.
Think he’s going to have to be moved on in the summer. Surely the club won’t let 50 odd million turn into a free transfer.
He’s unlikely to be considered a £50m player now. I dont see anyone paying close to that unless he plays nearly all games until the end of the season.
