Napoli vs. Liverpool | CL Match Day 1 | Sep 7, 20:00 | Stadio Diego Armando Maradona

Fabinho has too much to do. too much ground to cover on that right side, getting pulled out of position and Harvey isn’t defensive-minded. Milner is on the other side of the pitch out wide and on a yellow.

should be in damage limitation at this point, pull Harvey and Milly both out and stick Thiago and Melo on. Gomez off for Matip, Timikas for Trent and see the game out with no more goals conceded.

Jurgens 7th year hitch?

Exactly, all any team has to do it ping it wide, Fabinho has to drift out to cover it, they play in behind or inside and they are on our back 2 who’ve forgotten how to defend.

I don’t give a shit what the dickheads on BT say. Trent, and Robbo are both being massively exposed by a midfield that is not covering them.

Trent cannot be up the pitch doing the creative role, and three seconds later in his own box defending.

If the full backs are supposed to be attacking, they can’t be defending breaks at the same time.

If not it will become extremely ugly :scream:

I am wondering what has happened to Trent? He isn’t helping at all, just walking around and watching.
No wonder Gomez is struggling so much tbf

He urgently needs some competition for his place. Too much complacency

This reminds me of the 2020 season where we had no defenders, only this time, we have no midfielders. Our style of play is based on intensity requiring the defence, the midfield and the attack all playing in unison.
Remove one component the whole system crumbles. Tactically with an underperforming midfield it is suicidal to play with a high line.
Flexibility in the formation is needed.
Alas the gaffer is too stubborn to make and bring wholesome changes.

exactly this…thank u

They’ll probably lose 8-0.

Simple thing is we are stretched and no one near to help if a bobble goes the wrong way

Salah lucky to stay on.

Time we rolled around like a true Italian after a tackle to bring in VAR

I’m not buying that this is solely about personnel. There’s something really fucking messed with the entire starting 11. This whole season.

Gomez subbed off again due to a poor performance. Can’t remember a centre back it’s happened to more.

Fabinho isn’t covering the right on the 2nd goal when hes not even in the picture or 3rd where he just lets runner skip past him.

I’m talking this season.

A less than stellar performance out there. Nothing seemed to go right.

Thankfully it’s group stage game 1…

I’d be inclined to pull Milner because I’d hate to see him get a red.

Not sure though who’d be the best choice off the bench.

Priorities for the second half?

  1. Don’t let them score another.
  2. Get stuck in…they’re getting cocky. They need to know it’s a game of two halves.
  3. Score at least 2 goals in the first twenty moments.

Team shape is really weird. Something of a
3-4-3 in possession but with a huge gap between the 3 at the back and the line of 4.

This is adding to the lack of space in attack and chaos in defensive transition.

I’ve been wondering for a few weeks whether it’s Pep Ljinders’ tweak that Klopp has supported and is seeing thru til say Thiago is back to give it a real shout.

Pep is probably the highest profile no 2 around the league these days, so if the above is true, it will be a concern if the whole idea needs binning ie will he hang around if his major input is a failure.

it’s not rocket science, the midfield isn’t capable of covering them

you watch Trent, he knows he’s caught out and jogging back.

on their second goal, down his side…he’s fucking watching the ball back and forth where he should be, from the middle of the box like a fucking pylon

and not a single sub for him on the bench.

How is Milner still on the pitch, fuck me. Keita was hooked at 43 for a much better performance.
