New Champions League structure

I don’t particularly mind the new champions league structure.

I do however think it unnecessarily creates 4 extra games when in reality there is nothing wrong with the structure as it is now.

Actually it’s worse than the present format.

Ye that’s what I mean,

It’s not as good as good as the current format.

This article from Dominic King, which gives a 10 point plan on how reforms can be achieved in football.

That’s a fantastic statement from the Milan fans.

Champions League Draw

Who is in the draw? What are the pots?

Pot 1: Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Barcelona

Pot 2: Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid, Atalanta, Juventus, Benfica, Arsenal, Club Brugge, Shakhtar Donetsk, AC Milan.

Pot 3: Feyenoord, Sporting Lisbon, PSV Eindhoven, Dinamo Zagreb, Red Bull Salzburg, Lille, Red Star Belgrade, Young Boys, Celtic.

Pot 4: Slovan Bratislava, Monaco, Sparta Prague, Aston Villa, Bologna, Girona, Stuttgart, Sturm Graz, Brest.

With the pots decided, what’s next?

Each team will be drawn against two different teams from each pot, playing one team at home and one away.

Teams will play eight matches against eight different teams.

I wouldn’t mind…

Bayern, PSG or Barca, Juve, Brugge, Sporting, Celtic or Feyenoord, Stuttgart and Bologna.

Happily take anyone bar the English sides for me.

Actually fuck the Madrid clubs too. Oh and Barca.

Would prefer not to draw Atalanta either tbh after last season, and keep Leverkusen away from us.

Do you know what, just give the 8 teams in pot 4 and be done with it.

Do pot A play more teams from pot B, C and D and less from A?

I think everyone plays 2 teams from each pot, from what I recall anyway…unless that is they’ve decided to change the formatting again.

Chelsea being pot 1 is laughable.

How come the best team in this year’s competition are only in Pot 2? Surely, this can’t be correct?

So the point of being in any pot is?

There isn’t really anything advantageous to it, it’s purely assigned now with clubs coefficient rankings in the competition. I just see it as an incidental purpose for the draw to be made.

Not blaming you, just saying that this used to be interesting it’s now just not got a point really

That’s pretty much most of football?

At Anfield though.

The pot you are in makes no difference. But doing the draw without seeding teams in pots would allow a side to draw every other side in the top 9 rated sides.

2 opponents per pot, one game at home and one away. Teams cannot face anyone from their same league.

Which is how it should be. I hate seeding. UEFA manipulation to make sure the top sides get through to the final stages..
