The critical thing to keep in mind is that a marketing company called A22 was the driver in the original failed effort. Real and Barca may have an interest in keeping the idea going because they feel UEFA has too much control over them now, but A22 NEED it to keep going because it is their only way to weasel their nose into the trough.
This is now the third time this concept has been raised, and both of the last two times it has been from A22 not the clubs. They are just raising trial balloons and waiting until the reaction to what they raise is sufficiently less negative that they feel the enthusiasm to oppose their moves has waned, at which time they’ll make formal moves.
