I noticed this story relating to a plan to replace the Mercator projection for maps of the world with the Equal Earth projection:
This is presented as being an Afrocentric move as it was proposed by Togo, but it actually has the biggest impact in Northern Europe and Canada which were massively distorted.
I think it’s long overdue, although I don’t know what effect it will have on flightpaths which always look bizarre on the Mercator maps.
