Not sure where the below should go as it seems to have been brought under control relatively swiftly but it is an odd sort of a development. I guess I’m a little curious as to how this unfolds but the main thing is it seems to have been nipped in the bud and (so far) with no casualties.
Probably more suited to breaking news, but the interesting thing is that it isn’t an intelligence led intervention. It sounds like a lucky intervention from the police (possibly from a call from the public?)
If they have the suspects under arrest, it will probably fall immediately into intelligence to follow up on.
Just been on the news, someone called the police thinking they were poachers.
Turns out they had some kind of explosive devices in the vans
That’s interesting. I wonder if poachers have a typical behaviour and/or appearance?
I’m guessing that it is related to the Iran war, but the tactic of this kind of activity is often to hire criminal gangs to carry out attacks on behalf of an external client.
We had a case a few weeks back where police arrested people damaging a substation at a hospital near Cologne. Seemingly the individuals were known to the police, but the crime was paid for by a Russian source.
Should have shot them. Send out a message.
Released on bail.
Obviously no longer terrorist suspects.
The rumour I’ve seen floating around is that they were nicking red diesel. That would make sense from the point of view of suspected bomb making material.
The other pet theories seem to be fly tipping or dogging. Possibly the latter, as Trump appeared to know all about it.
Doubt it would have any interest for Trump unless it involved Russian hookers and pissing
Love this quote from one of the residents near the incident …
I haven’t gone home as I want to wait until I know more about what the hell happened, as it feels super dodge to me
Holy shit, think they need to up their doses.
FFS, that’s hideous. They seem to have a history of botched executions. They also seem to come up with the most convoluted ways of doing it. If they are so squeamish about it, maybe they shouldn’t be killing people in the first place?
I did once ask why they didn’t just use a firing squad as they seemingly have an abundance of assault rifles, but apparently they only work on schoolkids.
Yep,
The rights and wrongs of capital punishment will be argued forever.
She committed an horrendous crime, and has been in prison for 30 years now.
Similarly horrendous crimes here get you 15 to 21 years ![]()
I think in some states they can choose and actually do so…
On the story, it is a tragedy on every level.
Luckily she was rushed to hospital just in time for life-saving treatment to be administered , and she should be back in no time at all to be re-killed.
In my mind, the easiest way to fix the issue of botched executions would be once they calculate the needed amount of injections - double it, then double it again. The need to make sure it is effective should be paramount if the goal is to kill the prisoner.
Potentially the pentabarbital may have been out of date and she may have had ‘soft’ veins which were blown through once the chemical was introduced , according to an anaesthetist interviewed by the BBC this morning who conducts such procedures.
Whatever , the whole thing is too barbarous to contemplate.
Missed a vein twice!
The last abortion of such a procedure was because they couldn’t find a vein.
Asks serious questions about the procedures in place and those carrying them out imo.
Is this one of those privately owned prisons?
I wonder if a doctor is involved - would seem in conflict with the oath if so.
Maybe to certify death.
It’s not difficult to train someone to administer injections, nurses (who I’d trust more than a lot of doctors as many have practice), pharmacists and depending on country the dispensers, vets and health laboratory workers.
I would imagine the constraint here would be finding someone with regular practice to administer such an injection and willing to do it. So perhaps the prison nurse?
It’s these details that the procedure should cover however as it’s the USA I would have my doubts over the prescribed procedure and whether it’s even followed.
I’m sure that if they used a shooting squad they could find plenty of guards capable and willing to shoot a rifle at a person.
Another group that could administer injections would of course be heroin and other drug addicts
.
In anycase the problem is that ‘they’ want it to be a spectacle with media, relatives and representatives present.
Why not just put them on a bed hook up an intravenous drip. Put them to sleep and administer the lethal dose via the drip?
It’s the procedure that’s at fault imo.
