That was never offside.
I saw on twitter some people claiming the lines were drawn on the wrong frame.
I just watched the footage back and took this screen shot. Wtf…
Nothing to see here. We will be robbed off any 60-40 chances.
Last season there was a great explanation given about how the real 3D position of the landmarks being used dont line up in a straight line across the pitch when shown in a 2D image on the telly. It takes some thought to understand but I get it. But why the fuck then use those lines on the official VAR feed to explain a decision to us. Something they do to supposedly give clarity leaves me more than often than looking at their images and not understanding how they’ve what produced can be offside, and how they could have selected the landmarks they have.
There is just far too much margin for error in the creation of these images to act like the system can fairly or accurately adjudicate decisions that are this close.
As I said in the match thread look at the still if it’s onside then give it, offside then don’t, if you don’t know? fuck the lines off and stay onfield with it, Villa weren’t feeling aggrieved.
The only way that is offside is that the lines show it to be and those lines are dubious at best.
Of course I’m more than happy to discuss when VAR sat there after the goal line technology didn’t work that in the end meant Bournemouth went down. Because that was clear as day.
Second time they’ve got this and both times they’ve lost, luckiest team in the league this.
It’s the obvious way to do it. I really don’t know why they are fucking about this lines. The rules say you can be level. Let’s have VAR catch the massive mistakes, and let the rest play out.
I would just have a quick look to check an attacker isn’t obviously offside, and if they are as close as today, then give the goal.
I didn’t celebrate any of the goals today. That’s just sad. It’s killing the game.
100% killing the game.
I can’t say “I don’t celebrate goals anymore” coz I was fucking everywhere when Trent scored today but it is killing the game.
Yeah I didn’t celebrate Salah’s because of the first one. I actually missed Trent’s as I needed the toilet and when I returned it was almost finished.
Maybe that’s what did it, but yeah we don’t get these lines in the other leagues, we get a still with a line and I wouldn’t want offsides like that Man Utd one last season but this crap today has to stop.
Imagine being in the ground yesterday… Trent sticks that in in the 91st min and Anfield goes Bizerk. Only for VAR to disallow in 90 seconds later because somebodies armpit was offside in the build
up.
Now that would just be a “normal league game”.
Imagine that exact scenario but in a season defining game to win the league, or a champions league final (or any final).
Something like that would finish football off for me.
Or at least football that involves VAR.
It has already happened. Spurs got to CL final when Man City had a stoppage time winner ruled out. It was a decision that could have gone either way. At the time we all found it hilarious. There is a very satisfying video on you tube of a city fan being interviewed outside who has clearly bolted straight after the goal to beat traffic, and he doesnt realise they have been knocked out.
But I agree if the boot was on the other foot it’s not good enough. Had it happended to us it’s hard to come back from.
Needs sorting, 50/50 calls have to go back to benefit of the doubt for me
wow that is terrible!
they don’t seem so bashful in rugby you can hear everything and the captain is told the reason for the final decision by the ref nobody bats an eyelid.
improve the technology like the goal line one no human is involved the ref is told whether it is in or out?
Ahhhh please provide that link… had a quick look couldn’t see it
I don’t even think the technology is an issue, the ruling on offside has fallen foul because they made it black or white, they should have done what cricket did and left some grey in, I know umpires call is questioned but it’s understood and accepted by the viewer.
I think cut out the lines and just look at the image if the naked eye can’t tell then back to the onfield call. I noticed in Baseball they go with enough evidence to over turn like in Cricket, the assumption is they do that with other incidents on the pitch but then you get that. It actually annoyed me yesterday for the first time, Everton I just accepted it as a fucked up call by a VAR official who has some issues with us but yesterday I couldn’t even tell you whether that was offside or not, until the lines came out it looked onside and as I said there is no conclusive evidence that Matty Cash doesn’t touch it, I would give him the benefit of the doubt as he slightly pulls out but is that just my mind playing tricks and is it because he touches the ball.
The call from top to bottom completely sucked, it’s the worst of them all for us (bar Pickford’s assault) and it needs a serious rethink and none of this Wenger rubbish about a whole player being offside, it’s simple to solve, get rid of the lines and use the naked eye, people will accept that
Absolute fucking state of this. Have a look at the angle of the pink line and tell me the game isn’t bent.
Don’t worry: “these things even themselves out over the course of the season.”
Like fuck they do.
