OoooOoo /Shudder VAR Thread

Gallagher is wanting Mike Dean’s job reason he will never say anything against refs.

Have another look. It’s the defender’s foot that kicks Mané’s, not the other way around.

The defender only makes contact with the ball after kicking Mané.

If Robbo conceded a penalty against Brighton, then this should have been a penalty as well.

I argued at the time strongly in favour of the VAR decision there, but that was in the absence of that additional angle. With that additional information, I would not draw a parallel to incidents like the Robbo one, because it is legit consequential contact that determined the outcome of the incident, not some nit picky incidental bullshit like we see on the Robbo call and the Sterling penalty.

It’s the ref’s game, the Club we support just happens to be playing it. It can be absolutely maddening to see the utter uselessness on display by them.

Tonight is what VAR is for, when I saw it I was a bit baffled by Hendo’s reaction but when they showed the replay it was obviously a dive.

No yellow for simulation

Oh yeah he`s an ex Red thats why.

That’s up to the ref, VAR won’t judge that Pawson is seeing it on the screen, if he makes that mistake it’s up to him, at least he saw all the angles on this one, bar that I think he had a good game mind.

I’ve come in without the context to what the argument is on this. But the top GIF I think clearly shows Ogbonna got to the ball first, and Sadio made contact with the side of Ogbonna’s foot. Its in fact Sadio’s foot colliding with Ogbonna’s that forces the WHU’s foot into the path of the ball. Is it enough contact for it to be awarded a foul to Ogbonna? I don’t think so.

There’s no argument; just a difference of opinion. :grinning:

I see the situation the other way around. It’s the whu player’s foot that swings towards Mané, kicking Mané’s foot and preventing him from getting the ball, not vice versa as this clip shows:

I’ve seen clips of this so many times and I still can’t tell who got to the ball there. One of those occasions where you just play on.

Exactly. No foul, play on, ball breaks loose, goal stands.
Again another example of how to not referee a contact sport.
A bit like if someone goes down in the box, it’s now a peno or a dive. It seems that somebody just losing their footing has been taken out of the equation.
In that West Ham game, the ‘decision’ should have been ‘no decision’ just play on.

I’d take that every day of the week, and twice on Sundays.

If I remember correctly, Jota was in an offside position, so we still needed VAR to show it was the WHU lad who got the touch.

I didn’t think he was?

We didn’t need VAR. The officials needed VAR to be able to chalk off a perfectly good goal. So they looked at the angles and found one they thought could help the ref.

The director of football lawmakers is happy with VAR.

Is this specific to the PL, or just in general?
