Our Squad / The favourite LineUp thread

They felt, but we realized some things about his health only when we bought him from Aberdeen.

Ramsey isn’t going to get a squad place. That takes us to 17.

One of Robbo or Kostas goes to make way for Kerkez.

Nunez going opens up a spot for a CF.

Then, Guehi takes Quansah’s place on the HG list. If we can’t get Guehi or another HG option you could lose Chiesa and/or Endo and use Doak or Bajcetic/McConnell more instead and then you get a non-HG CB this summer.

We’re broadly fine but we do need to keep trying to get some of these young lads through if the likes of Quansah and Elliott are going to be moving on.

Yeah, the pressure has gone up in terms of trying to produce from our local pool or keep finding and nicking some of the best talents across the UK.

Really didn’t know where to put this

Watch til the end, sound on :joy:

Arne Slot believes Liverpool’s defeat in the FA Community Shield can serve as a valuable lesson as his squad prepare to begin their Premier League title defence.

The Reds were beaten on penalties by Crystal Palace after a 2-2 draw at Wembley on Sunday.

New signings Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong scored for Slot’s side, who kick off the new top-flight season against AFC Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday night.

Ekitike and Frimpong were joined in the champions’ starting XI against Palace by fellow fresh faces Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz and, speaking to Liverpoolfc.com after the game, Slot said: ā€œI think it’s a good first impression the new players have, [those] that haven’t played in this league last season.

This [Palace] was the number 12 [12th-placed team] of last season – a very good team, [who] especially in the end they did so well that they maybe are better than the number 12 [position] they ended up in.

ā€œBut if these are the number 12 that can make it such a hard time for you, you know what you are going to have to expect if you play here and that is what they know now.

ā€œAnd the ones that played here for a longer time also know that if you won the league, if you wear a Liverpool shirt, everybody wants to win desperately against you and we have to be more ready for that than we were today.ā€

Prior to Palace’s two goals, Liverpool had also conceded nine times in six pre-season friendlies.

When asked if this record is an area that needs to improve, Slot replied: ā€œThe main thing is not to concede chances and if you don’t concede a lot of chances it’s very difficult for a team to score a lot of goals.

ā€œYou saw against [Athletic Club] Bilbao we only conceded the two set-piece goals, we hardly conceded a chance, so I was really pleased with that.

ā€œAnd today I saw a team again that worked really hard, but we faced a team that is just bringing every ball in behind the last line and every cross into our box, so that is hard to defend. It’s a difficult strategy to play against, a difficult game plan to play against.

ā€œBut we did quite well, in my opinion, until the moment of the 2-2 where we opened up completely in the middle and he could just go one-on-one to Ali [Alisson Becker], which happened in the first half as well.

ā€œThat is too much for us but overall I don’t think we conceded so many chances that we now have to discuss us being poor in defence. But if you want to win something, you cannot concede in every game two goals.ā€

No more excuses for mispronouncing Ben Doak.

Non HG

Alisson
Marma
Konate
Virgil
Robbo
Kerkez
Gravenberch
Mac
Szoboszlai
Wirtz
Endo
Gakpo
Chiesa
Salah
Ekitike

Add: Isak?

Still leaves space for one more non HG.

HG

Davies
Gomez
Bradley
Frimpong
Elliott
Jones

Add: Guehi

[This assumes Tsimikas leaves.]

Leoni, as an U21 doesn’t count yet for PL purposes but will need to go on the A list for UEFA purposes.

Ok, here we go. Two excellent teams:

Ali
Frimpong Guehi VVD Kerkez
Gravenberch Mac Allister Wirtz
Salah Isak Gakpo

And

Mama
Bradley Konate Leoni Robertson
Endo Jones Szoboslai
Chiesa Ekitike Ngumoha

Bloody hell!

Ps feel terrible about putting Dom, Hugo and Ibou in the B team, but that’s the depth we’ll have.

For the A team I’d put Wirtz in Gakpo’s position with Dom as the no.10 behind Isak.

I think we might be seeing that once Frimpong has recovered from injury.

And we still have Nyoni and Danns as reserves. I hope we keep Joe Gomez and not sell him. He’s a versatile back up across the defence and DM.

Yeah, you can mix them up quite a bit, but I was just trying to show how strong the squad is. There are going to be some tricky decisions for Slot in the coming months.

Fixed. Still looks good as long as the defenders stay fit.

I am still concerned on the backline however I have been open about Leoni being trusted a bit more. Personally if Guehi had come in I’d have been delighted.

I think we’ve improved at left back and potentially right back. I think we’ve improved in the middle of the park, gone back a bit at CB and dropped a little in the options going forward however Isak could easily produce the output last season of Nunez and Jota. If you include Wirtz in that you’ve probably slightly improved.

Is this with respect to losing Quansah and VVD a year older? With Leoni in I think we are still okay. We haven’t upgraded or taken the step towards the transition which would have happened with Guehi but I think we plan it in upcoming windows.

Across the backline we already have both the full backs now transitioned, so am good to wait for the CBs to get delayed by a window.

Think we’ll have Endo/ Grav cover in worst case scenarios and there’s always Dom if nothing else works out
