Case in point, Lozza Fox, that cancerous growth on humanity, posted at half-seven last night,

‘You cannot hate them enough.’

Pretty sure the them was not middle-aged, white Liverpudlians, nor do I think he was referring to dangerous drivers in general…

All plausibly deniable, of course…

This is an unfortunately not uncommon scenario where a car has ended up somewhere they shouldn’t have during a pedestrian event. So many bad decisions proceed it for the car to get into that position in the first place, but it reaches a sense of the driver panicking and thinking “I’m stuck and the pedestrians aren’t clearing, so if I start moving they’ll be forced to get out of my way” often claiming self defense as a motive because of the growing anger of the pedestrians rightly concerned and acting out against a car inching further an further into a crowd where it should not be.

There are reports here that maybe the road reopening was not planned or coordinated well enough, but I’ve seen it happen multiple times by drivers coming upon a road closure that was not well policed and acting on a self entitled sense of “roads are for cars, I’ll find a way a through” they bypass whatever barricades are in place and quickly get in the muck.

Did my usual route into work this morning (can’t say I’ve got much done at all - constantly refreshing the BBC news page), which passes through the strand/all the different docks and I have to say the local authorities have done remarkably to clear the streets and main waterfront from congestion. Wanted to leave some flowers at the scene but there were some police presence that taped off a few of the adjacent roads which made it tricky, will try again on my way back.

The biggest positive is that there doesn’t appear to have been any loss to innocent lives which in itself is a miracle.

That’s some distance from Water Street. It’s on Dale Street. You can see the town hall on the right and the car appeared to take off at speed going past the town hall and into Water Street.

Perhaps he was pissed off at what happened on Dale Street and the red mist came down. I’m not making excuses for him but that could be his defence; that what happened on Dale Street provoked him.

When Horror Struck, Liverpool Stood Tall What happened in Liverpool yesterday evening should never have happened. A day that should have been unifying, joyful, was instead marred by terror and grief. And yet, even in that horror, something telling emerged. This city, so often patronised or misunderstood, showed what it’s really made of. While the internet buzzed with wild claims and stoked division,

@MerseyPolice

acted swiftly, responsibly, and with calm authority. No delay, no obfuscation. A 53-year-old white British man was arrested. It is not being treated as terrorism-related. That was the truth, and they gave it to us without hesitation. Let recriminations for the traffic management follow only after a full and thorough investigation.

@MetroMayorSteve

spoke quietly but clearly. He saw it unfold from just 100 metres away. Now he waits, like the rest of us, for updates on the four who remain “very, very ill” in hospital. Their survival is the only result that matters now. There was no partisanship, no point-scoring. Football clubs - rivals on the pitch, brothers in humanity; stood shoulder to shoulder. #Everton, #MUFC, #MCFC.
They put tribalism aside and offered what mattered: compassion. Kenny, Gerrard and Carragher spoke from the heart. Infantino spoke for the world game. And yet, the most resonant words came not from fame, but from the street. Because it wasn’t only officials or stars who showed grace. It was the people of Liverpool. The mums and dads who offered strangers a lift. The shopkeepers who pulled down shutters and opened doors. The neighbours who turned their homes into shelters. Food shared. Comfort given. No cameras, no fanfare. Just decency. Kemi Badenoch called it “extraordinary compassion”. She was right. It was extraordinary. But it was also exactly what you’d expect from [#Liverpool]

(https://x.com/hashtag/Liverpool?src=hashtag_click). A city forged by hardship, hardened by injustice, but never stripped of its heart. When joy was turned to fear, this city did not panic or turn in on itself. It held out its hand. It’s easy to mock football parades. Easy to sneer at the songs, the flares, the flags. But anyone who saw what happened on that street and what followed knows this wasn’t just about sport. It was about people, community, spirit. #LFCParade #LFC

@mattyhurst I got lucky on the way back , as I was walking to get into Lime street station I ran into a London mate who was driving back. I started seeing the train delay emails on our way back.

Thank goodness nobody got killed. I’ve seen a few angles of the videos. It seemed like the bloke panicked after his back window was smashed in and started driving. There was nowhere for him to go without hitting people. Thankfully he wasn’t going that fast.

I sincerely hope it was a huge panicked miscalculation on his part. I hate the idea that he could have driven around maliciously to hurt people.

He shouldn’t have been on that road in the first place. He pissed people off when he backed into some of them without looking (highly dangerous). And that’s when it kicked off. People were rightly angry that their and other fellow fans’ lives were threatened. A people carrier can easily become a murder weapon in the wrong hands.

Hopefully it stays this way. Last report I saw said an adult and child were seriously injured, not sure if it’s life threatening.

It’s looking more and more like a tragic accident and escalation of events. Although let’s wait.

Makes you lose faith in humanity - even more. Thank the lord it’s injuries and not deaths. Fingers crossed for full recoveries.

I don’t mean to be facetious in this time of hurt, but it’s noticeable that the blame is put on everything and everyone other than the prevalence of cars in the inner city.
Of course, lots of other factors involved, but cars are deadly weapons and we just won’t acknowledge that.

And some people are happy criticizing police about lax security. You can’t always police stupid people.

This whole catastrophe could easily have been avoided had the driver not made the first decision to be in that road.

A couple of clips i noticed shown on sky.
The first being that at some point there was another car in front of his on 1 of those streets packed with crowds.Is that the point he reversed as the car infront was stationary and he was too close to go round?
The 2nd clip showed his car veering right, into the crowd even though there was some free space in front of him.Why would he do that rather than continueing straight?

I did notice this. Why would he veer to the right instead of going to the free space ?
