Full credit to Brighton. They play good football, and they gave it a real good go. Deservedly on top at half time.

I suspect Slot let the team know his displeasure at half time, as we just weren’t competing. I doubt he is a tea-cup thrower, but he probably got the message across. And what he certainly did do is get his tactical instructions across too. The team came out with more intensity, and the tweaks Slot made got us back in it.

Then the subs were perfect too.

Ten games, top of the league, and we are passing the tests that are put in front of us. It was a surprise to see both Arsenal and Man City lose - I’ll take it :joy:

Arguably Arsenal might have a hangover season, after fighting so hard and going close to Man City the last two seasons. It takes a lot out of a team, as we know. Here’s hoping. And arguably Man City might struggle, relatively speaking, without Rodri, and also with a big cloud hanging over them with all the charges, so perhaps they might not steamroller all before them as before.

Slot has tightened us up. It’s still not fully there, but we are calmer in the way we go about our business, and so far it has taken us to the top of the league, and we are going very well in Europe too.

Onwards and upwards.

I ended up having to watch this through a board meeting on Zoom. Probably should have just shut it down and watched it later. However, in an effort not to appear distracted, I very earnestly was taking notes. Presented for entertainment value, a curated collection of my notes in chronological order:

  • frustratingly sloppy passing, this whole half
  • Darwin is working like a fucking Trojan, offense and defence.

2nd half

  • Joe!!! Fuck! When it will it happen for you?

  • fuck you Estupinan and your stupid socks. Deserve a yellow for the socks and being a cunt, that’s a red right there

  • Gravenberch has a remarkable sense of using his body to turn and shield reception of a pass and set up his direction of movement

  • TAA is playing so far below what we know he is capable of, to the point that it is infuriating

  • The woman commentating is terrible. I want to like her, I want to give her a chance, but she keeps beating me over the head with cliches

  • where the hell is Diaz playing?!? it seems like it is wide right AND left

  • That Salah goal is basically an archetype. 50 years from now, all of his goals are like that

  • Darwin touches that with a hair, and we are talking about a great poacher’s goal. It isn’t a goal without him. Great cross from Gakpo, but Darwin deserves huge credit. Plus, I think he took a sharp elbow to the ribs on that

  • Not sure what the numbers are, but I think Brighton has dropped a remarkable number of points from a winning position already this season.

For me, this match is another half-full glass. Lots of faults to find, but keep 'em coming.

If excluding Fwank who’s only in the top scores because of the insane amount of matches he’s played.

Salah is the only midfielder/winger in the top 10.

His minutes per goal are better than Shearer / Rooney / Cole. And not far off from pure CF’s like Kane , Henry.

The numbers don’t lie. The game has gotten more towards wingers scoring goals but a CF’s main job is still to score goals. Salah’s got similar numbers to Henry at this stage of their careers.

the other two wingers in this list are Son and Sterling.

Son with 123 goals having played 39 matches more than Salah and a minutes per goal being much much worse.

Sterliing with 123 goals being much worse than Son statistically and having played 60 matches more than Mo

Purely PL games.

There were other players who could match Henry’s output (Kane,Aguero for instance).

There’s been no winger who could match Salah’s output (Not even come close)

Second best all over the field for an hour. Slot has got to take the credit for his substitutions that in the end won us the game. Trent doesn’t seem to be arsed and his passing is so off the mark that it makes you think that Slot must be considering benching him for a spell. At the end of the day a great if a little bit lucky three points.

Fair play to BHA, they have established themselves as very strong PL team despite a limited budget and the loss of key players and coaches over recent years. They have top notch recruitment and they play good football.
Don’t mind them at all.

That Estupian bloke is a wanker though.

We haven’t beaten anyone above us in the league.

We have to stop giving away the first half to opponents. Getting to become an unfortunate habit. Reminds me of last season actually. The players can’t be that slow to adapt to the other teams tactics, or can they?

I think there is a tendency for some teams to come all cylinders firing in the first half. The key is not to concede and then let themselves wear out.

I swear I’ve seem sone variant of this every single season since he made his debut
Combined with too lazy to defend, etc.
