He is in a place where the good things he does are either ignored (note the complete lack of acknowledgement of him getting isolated with Mitoma, one of the best 1-1 attackers in the league, and winning that battle), or written off as what he’s supposed to do.
Yes, I think we have seen that happen under Klopp - teams often couldn’t handle going toe to toe for 90 minutes. But also more recently with a slightly more disciplined approach - Mo has been able to exploit tiring fullbacks mercilessly in several of the most recent games.
I dont know whether the stats back it up but there is certainly a perception he has been more effective later in games this season. The analogy is to a long time champion boxer who manages their energy by taking the first few rounds to figure out where their opponents weaknesses and doesn’t step up the action until he’s figured it out.
Trent was very poor in possession yesterday and the previous game, but agreed he needed more help from Mo as Estupian was one of the main outlets for Brighton to beat the press, he had way too much space which then resulted in him finding Mitoma to go 1 v 1 with Trent.
It hasn’t been Trents defensive side which has been the problem it is in possession that has been the issue, not what you would expect, it seems he is double guessing himself and not committing to the pass or he could be too nonchalant.
I think the chatter about the contracts should be suppressed until at least the New Year. Firstly, it is not fair on AS to have his body of work disturbed when he is pushing us to the top of the pile, and keeping us there so valiantly. Secondly, if we are to gain a spot were we can catch our breath - unless those players are ready to make a decision/commitment in the next international break… it should not be this side of the festivities…
See where the team is at that point - nail the contracts if possible… if not leave it until deep/end of season
If we have a realistic chance of winning the PL this season… not only should we give it all we have got… if those out of contract can’t see we are moving in the direction we should be… well - if any collateral falls to the wayside in the meantime - shit happens eh
Good luck with that.
I mean internal club related… Let AS do his job
Do you have any vacancies
Cant complain with the result here. Brighton have become a tough team to beat.
I didnt see the game, only MOTD highlights so i can only judge from that and peoples comments on here.
I note from the stats that we had less possession overall than Brighton. Was that a symptom of that lacklustre first hour?
We had similar against Arsenal but that was away from home.
I don’t think so as we’ve had many lacklustre first halves where we’ve had more and Brighton are one of the better sides in the league at keeping the ball.
Our avg possession in the 15 games so far is 56.8% which is 5-6% less from last season (quality in opposition from CL to EL sides plays a factor) so I’d put it down to general play.
Woohoo, was away from internet all week-end, and read the results this morning. Couldn’t have gone better for us, eh?
I won’t comment on the game as I didn’t see anything from it so far, but credit to the lads for sustaining their efforts week in week out, and finding a way to get the three points.
Brighton has never been an easy opponent for us, so it’s doubly satisfying to have that game out of the way while taking three points off both our nearest opponents. Nice.
Slot’s tactical flexibility plays a role in that I think. For example against Chelsea we intentionally allowed them possession in order to hit them on the counter attack. Slot doesn’t really care about anything other than winning the game as far as I can see so if that means letting the opposition have the ball then that’s what he’ll do.
Not Technically true, Ipswich game week 1
I actually missed that City had lost. I was looking at the table wondering when they play their game. They had already lost. Still top of the table, which is nice.
As @The-AllMightyReds notes, it really wasn’t. First half and second half possession numbers are about the same, and Brighton actually had more of the ball in the last 30 minutes than their % for the match.
Love this!!
Saw this on MNF yesterday.
