First half, the Frimpong twisted ankle incident. Most referees would probably not see what actually happened, so VAR could’ve intervened (my guess is the ref said not enough for him, so that means the high threshold comes into play, even if the ref didn’t actually see the contact).
The Wirtz incident is a referee decision that VAR would uphold both ways if given or not. Home advantage, so no pen for us (had we did done that in our box, the ref would’ve given it).
As good as the performance was, I wonder how we will shape up against a low-block team like Burnley. If it’s the same old pedestrian stuff that we’ve been seeing, then I would have to say that there hasn’t really been any change or improvement.
Although we controlled most of the second half, I can’t say it was scintillating stuff. There was still too much sideways passing either side of the halfway line. If it wasn’t for Frimpong we would have hardly got into their box. We still need to be more dynamic.
Glad to see us have some zest in our game. Good result overall, apart from the injury to Bradley. Poor kid can’t turn a trick. Even his hit rattled off the bar.
.
Seem to be moving slowly in the right direction.
It wasn’t exciting, but for the first time in ages it was an assertive and confident display. If we had managed to find a final pass, something which has been a problem for weeks, we would have walked away with all 3 points.
After watching that, I can’t help but feel that even with all the injury issues, we’ve made ourselves a massive disservice with how poorly we’ve performed all season. It’s like we took until January to remember how good we can be.
Hope he gets a career ending injury, Arsenal shit the bed (ala the Eduardo season) but it will all be okay because the lad that wrecks him later gives a token performative sorry on social media.
They were all good and Kerkez should get it for making the commentators look like dickheads.
No way did Sako dominate him yet the commentators had to stick to the script.
He did ok in the first half defensively however when we needed some technique in attack he fell short. Below the rest of the team yes but much better than my favourite useless category.
Sure however it was a deliberate tactic that looked like that. In games before much of the time there doesn’t seem to be that plan and we let ourselves down technically.
So it was an improvement, whether we can keep that up is another question, let’s hope it continues.
Super happy with the result and, by the accounts that I’ve read here, we put in a good performance. Hopefully with the return of our strikers though the next couple of weeks we can kick on!
To the commentators I think what domination means is doing a lot of step overs and dragging the ball backwards and forward, and look, that full back still hasn’t tackled him.
Just catching up on here. I was very happy with the performance. It seems odd having a draw that feels like a win after two that feel like defeats.
Weirdly, we seem to play better when our backs are against the wall. The Bradley injury is a big blow. The lack of substitutions up to then indicates the sparsity of top, fully fit players. I’m assuming the likes of Jones were not fully fit for this match. We are getting down to fringe players, kids and goalies. Do you think Mamardashvili could double as centre forward? He’s tall enough.
Media reports say ‘Liverpool frustrated Arsenal’. I think it was the other way round, Arsenal frustrated Liverpool. We were definitely the better side over 90 minutes.
I genuinely don’t get how VAR didn’t take a longer look at the Frimpong one. The Wirtz was a clear check and would normally have been given.
But the Frimpong one is a penalty. He turns his ankle and goes down because as he goes to plant his foot it gets kicked by Hincapie.
On initial viewing it may have looked like he got it caught in the turf but from another angle it’s clear his foot gets kicked just as he’s about to place it.
On balance a draw was probably a fair result but on the big decisions we were unlucky.
