Post match: Bournemouth v Liverpool (EPL 11/3/23 12.30pm)

Spot on, they just turn up for what they deem to be the big matches and mentally/physically down tools for most others.

That’s the worst. Any player doing this needs to be shown the door if we have any intention of competing for any trophy

Is there a stat on pre assists assists? Eg defence piercing pass to player to set up a goal?

There probably is, but it’s a meaningless stat.

Player A can make a brilliant pass to player B, who then sets up Player C. Player C blasts his shot into row Z. Result: no goal.

Player A makes a brilliant pass to Player B. Player C is waiting for a tap-in, but Player B scuffs his pass or miscontrols, or whatever. Result: no goal.

So Player A has played two outstanding passes, but there is no goal to show for his work.

Nothing FSG did has turned us from a winning team v United to crap against Bournemouth.
Against MU we played high tempo, competitive football. Against Bournemouth we returned to our " walking " football. The players do not suddenly become poor , it is the responsibility of the manager and coaches to dictate playing style.

True. We need an influence index. Oh we do! TIA mom vote

Doesn’t mean he can’t become one and the defensive side is what he needs to work on and is something I have seen an improvement in over the previoys 2 games before Bournemouth

The stat they use is progressive passes and from what I see is that he is up there as one of the best

Don’t you dare compare yesterday’s performance to ‘walking football’. :rage:

I play it regularly and I’m always being penalised for running. More than any of our lads would have been for their efforts yesterday.:wink::nerd_face:

I’ve seen Bournemouth’s goal. Wish I hadn’t. So much wrong from our perspective but I’d be asking VvD some serious questions. I can’t accept attitude like that. I don’t think I’ve seen a Liverpool player give in like that. If there’s a problem, he shouldn’t be playing

TAA flat out said that Bournemouth wanted it more followed by the usual platitudes of it being unacceptable and making sure it doesn’t happen again. He and the others will say something similar the next time they shit the bed against a minnow like they’ve been doing all season. If they get motivated only for the big boys, it’s time to seek employment opportunities elsewhere.

Took the night off to collect my thoughts and not post knee jerk reaction for what went on yesterday. Still can’t get my head around yesterday’s performance.

We keep saying this season after each horrible performance. , that this time hopefully, it is the bottom of the barrel. The way we are going this season, the bottom of the barrel must have reached the centre of the earth. :zipper_mouth_face:

Everyone has already used the best possible superlatives for describing yesterday’s performance. How many times have we done the same inquest this season :frowning: .

My biggest grief is with not just with the players, but also the coaching staff mainly for two reasons , attitude and tactics/personnel.

How did the coaching staff allow such standards to be set in, that you can just turn up and not give a fck about the shirt ?. Being inconsistent is one thing, where atleast you can witness an effort for the shirt. What we all witnessed yesterday was a horror show, no drive, no urgency. You atleast give your all for the shirt, and then the result will take care of it on it’s own. :scream: But, to be not giving a toss and not showing any urgency, it shows how mentally fragile and deceiving this team is , even to the boss now , as he looked absolutely clueless about this performance as well.
Everyone was hiding, nobody wanted to be on the ball and whoever got the ball, only wanted to play sideways. The only person who wanted to be on the ball and turn and showed urgency came on with 2 minutes left on the clock , who has been completely frozen out(Cavarlho, if you are still wondering).
Seriously, who on this earth really believed that Hendo, Millie will find us a goal when we are chasing. It has been one of our achilles heel for years. Close to zero contribution for goals/assists from the midfield.

Now coming to tactics/personnel, The whole world knew Bournemouth will sit back and try to beat the high line, as everyone else has done to us the whole season. The high press will be completely ineffective against a low block team. Yet, we went with wrong personnel. I agree with people’s sentiments that Harvey and Bajetic are not ripe yet. They are only there for the energy they offer . Their game intelligence , I am afraid is not on par or level with top 3 teams of any league in europe. What we needed against bournemouth were players who could work in tight spaces, stretch the play a little and create something. The only available players who could do that yesterday in available midfield options were Keita, Cavarlho and Arthur.
We should have started with Fabinho, Keita and Cavarlho yesterday and bring on Arthur later. I also feel that Boss, needs to mix up the forward line a bit sometimes, just surprise the opposition for ffs. Bring Mo in the middle , Put gakpo left for atleast 10/15 min. Give the opposition, something else to think about. The worst part of yesterday was not losing this game after Utd, but losing it from a crap Bournemouth team, who were still pretty crap yesterday, but we still made ourselves look worse.
It is so frustrating to watch what we do against low block teams, sideways passing to the midfield, then send it to LB/RB to lump a blind cross and lose possession. Rinse and repeat !! :face_vomiting:
These players are getting away with a lot this season and if our beloved manager keeps letting them get away with these performances, sooner or later, he will be under pressure as well. Seriously, I work in a private firm and I bet alot of people do the same on this forum. If I refused to not deliver what is expected of me every darn day and try to be slacker for one day, to begin with I may be handed a warning, and next time, I will be thrown out of the company. That’s how it is.

The only positives for me yesterday, were Cavarlho looking like he cared and the team pretending we are a shit show to completely blindside Madrid .(Hoping that’s what it was.) :joy:

Tough few days ahead and a long frustrating international break to come. :disappointed:

Good.

… and we always seem to draw when neither team gets the first goal.

Its not as simple as ABC though.

Dead right. That’s the bullshit attitude we mocked utd over for a number of years now, followed by the same pathetic social media crap. Words are cheap.

Well fuck me sideways, as if xG (I even hate the “abbreviation”) wasn’t stupid enough.

I dislike how maths equations have slowly but surely been creeping into football.

@cynicaloldgit The point being that there’s still value to identifying the Player As of the world, no?

I dislike how anti-intellectualism is not so slowly storming into society…
