Post match: Bournemouth v Liverpool (EPL 24/1/26 5.30pm)

I’m so sick of that man’s BS.

Players remain on the ground receiving treatment until their replacement is ready to come on, but not with us…

I will not speak badly about our Premier League winning manager, but if a change is made it is understandable.

Lots of circumstances have conspired against us this season … it has all been listed out many times, but even with all of that acknowledged, we should be doing better, and Slot should be getting a better tune out of the group at his disposal.

It feels like there’s no real spark, and so not making a change will likely consign us to a flat remainder of the season. Missing out on the CL would be a big hit, and so if the decision was made to bring in Alonso, I would back it.

If we brought Alonso in I would be cautious about expecting him to be the Messiah from day one, but at the same time, it looks like the players need to hear a new voice.

I’m not dancing on Slot’s grave and I won’t badmouth him either. He is the Liverpool manager, the Premier League winning Liverpool manager, and he has my respect.

But the more data points we are accumulating as we go, the clearer it is getting that a change is needed.

Pretty much my take. I’ve gone from being one of the first to want him out to actually feeling a bit sorry for him after the Burnley and Bournemouth games. That doesn’t excuse the shitty safety-first boring football we’ve played all season but when your big name players are turning in garbage performances game after game you’ve got no chance.
We spent an absolute fortune in the summer but look like we need to overhaul the whole defence and midfield.
May as well start now because the rot has set in and shows no sign of being addressed. We need to appoint someone with some pedigree who will make the hard decisions and not another bloke from left-field who the players wont respect.
Carry on as we are and we’ll miss out on CL qualification and possibly Europe altogether. We’re a fucking shambles and I fear for us.

Will expect them to give a proper thrashing of that side from Baku on Wednesday. Hopefully that will rinse the bad taste of this one

Firing a manager is always the easy solution.
There’s very little evidence that it works when done mid-season.

As fans we’re often constrained by the lack of access to information.

But I find it incredibly hard to see how a manager can win the title and then become bad, or his voice stale, all within a year…

Problem is the only two data points we have it’s worked out ok and secondary the type of team that does it are the ones who often do it and are generally run as basket cases.

And then what? Back to being dogshite in the PL?

Which we are not, thankfully..

And which is why folks need to think about resorting to easy solutions

It is a pattern…win in CL, look lost in the PL. It would be insane to hoist Big Ears, and finish mid table in the PL.

Yeah but not every team that does it are a basket case.

I was just pointing out those that do it often create more data points but are mostly basket cases.

Thats what a squad is for to rotate players and keep them fresh, we don’t have a manager willing to do so or the players.

And there’s very little to no evidence that it works, even for the well run clubs.

And in our case, it would merely be a case of following the usual narrative without understanding the deeper issues or if there’s any in the first place.

And that’s why I can only look at the leadership and what they are saying/doing or not.

How do you rotate a depleted and unbalanced squad?

Just to make the point that for all our pragmatic keeping possession and keeping it tight, we don’t roll the ball out of play for 7 minutes after Gomez went off and conceded playing with 10 men, which ultimately cost the point.

If all the weird stuff that happened (changes in formation etc) this is arguably the most confusing?

The club has a real decision to make, because he seems likely to make a decent run in the CL. But if Slot is sacked, this inconsistency in decision making and lack of clarity in the league would seem to be costly.

Sadly I think Arne is done. His style of football is slow and possession based. No sharp attacks. I don’t think I’ve seen more boring football since Hodgson but the difference in spend is dramatic.
.
I find it hard to watch. Draws seem to be our aim where with Klopp it was risk everything to win.
.
I have been trying to stay true but it’s faded.

That’s what I intimated in my post, but when he has had the opportunity he hasn’t done so and been a criticism on here by many!

Thankfully I missed the game due to kick off time. I did wake up about 2:30. Checked the score and went back to sleep feeling pretty sure that we would not end up winning. Again.

Slot’s post match comments indicate that he seems to think that merely having possession and controlling the game is enough to win a game. I suppose that did work last season up until the Carabao Cup Final and the games against PSG. Is that a particularly Dutch attitude towards playing football?

To those who say that changing coaches during the season doesn’t end well, I would say show me the evidence for that. I don’t expect a change of head coach now to result in us winning something this season but I think it would result in us winning some PL games instead of losing or drawing.

Having said that, I would not want an interim manager. So there’s the dilemma. Xabi is available now but there are others who would or could be available in the summer. Do we stick or twist?

BTW why were the full backs subbed off? Were they both injured?
