It was such a fantastic game to be honest. I mean ofcourse since we dropped points it feels like missed opportunity. But the end to end stuff and the entertainment it offered was amazing. Sometimes feels good just to enjoy such games than the dross Chelsea put up against us and City (and yet managed 1 out of 6 points)
Come on we watched the game and we should have won.
The point is we want ‘us’ to win, we see the opportunity to win then when that doesn’t happen we are dissappointed.
Are you telling me you weren’t dissappointed?
Over the top reactions are pretty normal however many on here we spout some crap than analyse, if you don’t like the analysis then put your counter arguements down, don’t go spouting even more crap trying to ‘shame’ others. We love a good arguement on here over who’s fault it is/was, at least this time it’s not got to #Kloppout!
Based on what? The manager rarely has anything but the fondest words for them, especially in recent times with Minamino. He’s always stressing that Minamino isn’t here for the short-term, but rather for the long-term project, and recently talked about how he simply didn’t have the luck, arriving right as the pandemic was getting into full-swing and therefore missing out on time spent with the team in training, let alone in matches. Then with the crisis we had last season, he didn’t want to risk too many changes, and so ultimately Minamino had to go out on loan so that he could get more gametime in the league to adapt to it.
This would technically be Minamino’s first full season for us, so a little too soon to write him off, no?
For Ox, I’m fairly certain Jürgen has talked about how vital he is to us, especially with his versatility and his strengths. I think it’s undeniable that he’s some way off his best at the moment, and that’s contributing to his reduced gametime, but apart from that, I don’t see how there’s supposedly this dislike for him from the manager?
Purely based on how many times they start and come on in. Im not saying he doesn’t like them just doesn’t trust or rate them football wise.
Klopp may talk them up but actions speak louder than words and they hardly get any game time bar Carribo cup.
Minamino has scored 3 in last 2 starts (if i’m correct Palace and Norwich) but come a moment in a league or CL game where we need a goal he is left on the bench. He was ignored again Sat for a rusty Bobby.
Also Klopp wanted more subs yet very rarely makes full quota of subs. 1 sub was Sat was really odd considering we have a game tonight and 8/11 were off their game.
Yet Ox was an integral part of our title-winning sides. Last season he barely played because of his injury, but also because as the manager has explicitly said before, the plan was for maximal stability in front of the defenders. This season thus far, that hasn’t been much reason to put him on, has there? If we wanted a midfielder in as a substitute in this game, he might well have got on the pitch, but it seems Firmino’s strengths were preferred.
Given how much Firmino has been stated time and again to be important to our play, it’s not surprising that we wanted him in, and to get him back up to speed again.
If 8/11 were off their game, who would be the best substitute to make, considering that no 2 players are exactly alike, and a change in any position would result in us needing to adapt how we otherwise play?
As for the substitution quota point, he already stated that for last season, he usually didn’t make a last substitution just in case we had an injury, which makes complete sense since you don’t want to be stressing out your players on the pitch even further by making them play down to 10 if an injury occurs. For this season thus far, this was literally the only game in which we didn’t use all our subs, so I’m not sure where you get “very rarely makes full quota of subs” from?
I feel Ox and Minamino aren’t doing enough to convince Klopp to play them as the third midfielder. Probably the reason why we have Elliott starting even against Chelsea and all our league games till he got injured and Jones starting now. Also a testament to the fact on our academy being good to produce the likes of players Klopp prefer than purely on basis of transfer, etc.
He prefers Keita above Ox and Minamino as well I think, which is why it’s sad that he couldn’t stay fit.
We tried Minamino once as a midfielder. The rest of the time he’s been a forward, unless I’m much mistaken? He’s more of a Firmino in style.
As for Ox, I would go back to what the manager said about Origi, which I think equally applies here. The standard to get into our team now is so high, that it’s quite easy to fall short. Instead of thinking about not rating them or trusting them (which is the original point), I think it’s better to think about how good Elliott was, for example, or Keïta. The latter in fact still has the highest gap in points obtained between him playing and him not playing, if I’m not wrong.
Yeah. And that’s where the challenge lies. They are competing against the likes of Salah, Mane, Jota and Bobby whom Klopp wouldn’t prefer removing unless things are going extremely fine. Plus you have Origi who cannot be played in midfield.
The squad currently is thin in midfield and both, especially Ox, should be expected to contribute more in that aspect, as he prefer playing in midfield as well. But somehow Klopp doesn’t see them providing what’s needed in such games to get them on for protecting the midfielders in this busy schedule.
I think it’s too soon to judge that, and also a little harsh. Jones himself has similar minutes to Ox, and has played mainly after Elliott got injured, but I don’t think many would say he’s out of favour?
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ox starting tonight, in the overall scheme of rotating, especially if it’s true that Alexander-Arnold is out of this match. I think given that we’ve only played less than 20% of our season so far, it’s too soon to talk about who’s not contributing enough. The squad depth will come into play soon, and it’ll be up to Ox to step up (in terms of quality on the pitch) when he’s called on to play. As for Minamino, I think it’s a case of Origi impressing during the international break that has given him the opportunities to rotate in instead, and we’ll see Minamino play plenty of games throughout this whole season.
Id play Minamino in the middle of the front 3 - he seems to have a natural instinct for finishing and knows where the goal is. He looks lost in midfield.
Im always willing OX to do well but I think injuries have taken him down a level.
I just find it odd that people say we have depth but depth is only good if we use them all and these 2 seem to play far less than everybody else deemed first team squad.
Prior to the Brentford game, we conceded 1 goal in the league, and I think that was unlucky (no way did Havertz mean it).
I think Brentford was not something to get hung up, from a defensive point of view. The defence were uncharacteristically bad.
For whatever reason, there were spells in the game where Van Dijk and Matip lost their heads. The seemed to want to get into a contest with Toney and make a show of winning a battle of strength, instead of playing the sensible game and mopping up the second ball. It was like they both got possessed by the spirit of Dejan Lovren.
I don’t know why. I think it was the emotion of the game, with Brentford’s first game at home to a big team. It might be that they are both returning from injury and lacking a bit of mental sharpness.
However, I think these lads are the first and second best defenders in the league. They’ll work it out. Klopp probably won’t need to tell them where they went wrong. They’ll know.
I would imagine there are no “neutrals” on here. So its hardly groundbreaking as a statement to declare that we want Liverpool to win every match.
I know I do.
But I am also a realist, as once again I guess most of us are…
I suppose we are all different. I think/hope Brentford is a bump on the road. We are unbeaten this season, so the fume expressed about some players is staggering.
