Ordinary game, but the result as required.
Gakpo MOTM for me but a shout for Jaros, did well!
Soton in the quarters, that will do!

I was thinking Grav for MOTM, his performance disappointed me so I voted for the real Gakpo, not that monstrosity that Jones calls him.

Good performance given the lineup, even though the 2nd team is insanely strong.

Gakpo’s goals were great to be fair and Jaros made some great saves.

Feel a bit more relaxed with our stand in number 2.

Thankfully Quansah didn’t get a touch. Would have gone in OG.

Just gutted that he didn’t keep a clean sheet

For a team put together where 6 of them wouldn’t be considered first choice, I thought that was a damn good performance and result.
Couple of examples of sloppiness, but overall I liked what I saw.
Entertaining game to watch with the right result for us too.
Happy with the draw for the quarters too.

A rather ugly game with few moments of quality from both sides. Fortunately, even with our second - third string players we had too much for them. I did not like the way we managed the game after the first goal; we seemed intent on giving them chance after chance.

Gapko was obviously the standout with one superb goal and a smartly taken second one. I really liked Morton as well, who got the assist for the opener and overall did better than Endo. Gomez too was very solid. Jaros would have been perfect had he reacted better for their first one, but otherwise he was faultless. Best No.3 goalkeeper in the world?

Quansah and Robertson, on the other hand, did not alleviate concerns about their form. Robertson had problems on his side again, whereas Quansah’s crisis of confidence won’t be improved after his mistake and the injury time substitution. Jones also annoyed me. While he had a good game, his tendency to hold on to the ball too long caused unnecessary issues. There were a couple of instances in the second half with Brighton all over us when instead of pushing up and releasing the ball on time, he literally moved towards our own end and added even more pressure.

And No.2 and No.1
 not bad , eh ?

Didn’t see the game but that was finishing of the highest order from Gakkers.

Gakpo may very well have the best pure strike of the ball in the squad. Power and accuracy.

He’s also probably only 2nd to Trent for the quality of cross he can put into the box.

Everything works better when players are in the actual positions they should be playing.

I wondered that at the time, too. The flip side is Slot might have been concerned that after the error and deflected goal anxiety was setting in, which was not needed for a possible tense last few minutes, so he hooked him.

Above the concerns of how the individual player might think about a manager’s decision, Slot must think team first, regardless of the player. If Slot felt that putting Konate in was the move to make, that’s his call to make.

On signs we’ve seen so far, Slot has made a few calls and he knows his mind, and the results have been good.

One thing we can’t possibly know about, but I hope this is the case, is that the man management happened behind the scenes. I would like to believe that Slot came alongside Quansah, and told him he is training well and is a good player who is part of his plans, etc.

Exactly on the last piece - that behind the scenes management can make all the difference between this being the best response to the current situation with a player we expect to play a big role for us for years to come vs an act of frustration with a player who you want better from. Slot clearly doesn’t have Klopp’s warmth, so I don’t expect JQ to be emotionally picked up with a big bear hug, but it was notable to me there was no anger or frustration in how he and Quansah engaged with each when he came off.

Quansah looked more frustrated with himself than anything else, but that’s just my interpretation.

Hilarious how Konaté managed to get himself booked in that short amount of time though.

Ibou was booked for having his shirt pulled by a Man U reject.

Was concerned about Bradley who got skinned a couple of times.

Was a joke of a decision given against Konate. It was a foul against him.

Tbf Mitoma is hard to stop, especially off the bench with fresh legs.

I was trying to make the point on Trent thread that we are putting too much expectation on Bradley to replace Trent (or be better as some are suggesting). He’s a brilliant talent but is still young and needs time

Yeah, I agree. As I pointed out in that thread, we expect too much from our young players sometimes.
