Not suprise that people that almost did not play whole year are not playing like Messi especially not in their preferred position.
But what surprise me, when those supposed not good enough people where playing we were winning. After substitutions, not the same result.
All in all happy to have seen players get minutes and others a deserved rest, hope to end the season with a win.
Yes I have time on my hands but I thought it might be an interesting exercise.
Our great teams of the 60s 70s and 80s won the title 13 times. Here is their record of just 5 wins in 26 games after they had clinched the title. Would read even worse without the 2 wins in 1990 - i.e. 3 wins in 24 games. Some seasons we clinched the title in the last game or two but there was one similar season 1983 to this and we drew 1 and lost 3 of the last 4 games. Itās party time and you canāt blame management and players for treating it as such. The jobās done so time to relax.
He needs one goal or assist to equal a record that was set in a 42 game season. Itās a silly stat, but at least suggests weād be best not selling him to Saudi a month after giving him a new contract
Right. Thatās exactly what I thought you were saying, so I didnāt miss the point, did I. Maybe find a gif that says āwe disagreeā.
Where to start with this shit.
Leave the politics out of it. Itās football. If we have disagreements in the politics thread, they donāt need to be carried on here.
Itās very rich that you are accusing me of disregarding what āworking classā fans want when paying their hard earned cash. Iām going on what I saw and heard from the stands. It was clearly a party atmosphere, and fans gave as much of a shit about the result as the players. It really didnāt look like the fans were fuming about the result or the performance.
Neil Atkinson, from the Anfield Wrap, who was actually at the game.
YOUāVE never known an away end as carefree.
There have been Liverpool away ends as a season draws to a close where there has been nothing to play for. But Iād have hardly called Liverpool at Stoke City in 2015 carefree. That was a heavy, heavy day.
This is all light. All sunshine and all sheer joy. New songs rattle around the away concourse, a variant on the songs we never got to write last time.
This is part of it, of course it is, a doubling down because we never got to single down. But it is something else because of the retrospect - a sheer exuberance because you never know what is round the corner. So delight in this because you never know.
It seems you are the only one guilty of projection here. If you want to be frustrated at the performance, thatās your business. But donāt project your disappoint (and Iād argue failure to see context) onto the match going fans, who were clearly having a whale of a time.
On Shankly, if he were around today, he wouldnāt be Shankly. He was a man of his time, and you canāt perform that translation as readily as you want to. But letās say you could pluck him out of the sixties and drop him into the present day. I dare say there would be a lot that would disappoint him - that we pay footballers 100 grand a week. That weāve largely priced the working class out of the sport. The incessant wall to wall coverage of football, and the way social media has elevated peopleās ability to hold forth on things they donāt understand. Iām not sure lads going through the motions when the league is wrapped up would really move the needle.
I generally have a problem with people using the name of legends too dead to speak for themselves to support spurious arguments at the best of times. But when football fans start moaning about people spinning in their graves as selectively as the tend to, it is especially annoying.
Now, shall we open the can of worms about whether āworking class fansā is a thing anymore, or shall we leave it for another day? Maybe letās leave it.
I didnāt interview the entire crowd, so I canāt be certain, but I think itās true for the crowd that went to Stamford Bridge too, judging by the videos Iāve seen.
I was lucky enough to be at the game last night. I didnāt pay for my ticket (freeby from a friend of a friend who works at Amex) but it was a fair journey down and back for Monday night (and I only travelled half as fair as most fans In sure!).
I understand people are upset to lose, but to be honest it really didnāt feel that bad in the stadium. The travelling fans didnāt seem to care much (I was in the Brighton end so only saw close up on walk out). They were still partying long after the game (while I was stuck in the queue waiting to get out of the car park.
I personally was mostly just happy and excited to see this incredible title winning team up close (the Amex is small and the views were amazing!) and while I have to admit I was a little distracted by the chat next to me from our unexpectedly attractive hostess (said friend of friend from Amex) these were my take aways from the game:
I thought Chiesa looked good on and off the ball - lots of good runs, passes, through balls, chasing down opponents, winning the ball back, etc
Elliott looked great in the first half but faded away in second possibly after the subs (maybe playing with Chiesa worked better for him than Darwin?)
The free kick goal was brilliantly worked and a lot of fun to watch
Gravenberch is just an incredible player on the ball
Salahās ability to control a received pass is unreal, but his own passes were just not quite working as well for him last night
Endoās defending is so clever, running between the attacker and the ball allowing another defender to pick it up - classic holding mid skills / vision
Brighton played well and seemed like they wanted it more than us in the second half. I expect this is because they actually did want it more (for obvious reasons).
Anyhow great night out for everyone there by the looks (and sound) of itā¦
Oh and apparently I nearly saw Fat Boy Slim at the bar so thereās that to be happy about (as well as the small matter of winning our 20th league title of course)
I donāt think I always know best, but on this issue I think Iām on fairly solid ground.
You invoked two things - the travelling fans who paid their money to watch team, and Shankly, who surely would not have tolerated this kind of on the beach attitude.
The travelling fans, through the pictures and video and the testimony of those who were there, clearly couldnāt give a shit.
And Shankly, who standards obviously would not allow this lax attitude, won the league three times and on each occasion his side failed to win a remaining game.
Fucking hell , you really are an arrogant person arent you?
This attitude i find annoying and rather than address what people may think of what they want to see from the players and the team etc like not fucking off on holidays before the season has even finshed etc ā¦you post this shit dismissing peoples opinions and they can all fuck off etc.
Iām a bit surprised by the level of anger and angst in this thread. This was an absolute dead rubber, it does have even less meaning than a pre-season friendly. Especially after sailing off to Dubai and spending a week of pre-holidays there.
Next week-end though, weāll have the last game in front of the fans, with the trophy being presented, so the lads will surely want to end the season on a high. Weāll see more running, and more commitment on the pitch.
As for those slagging off the squad players coming in, itās a bit rich to be honest. Judging them within such a meaningless context is exactly as meaningless.
However, I liked some moves we made at times. Those leading to our two goals, and several others, which could have lead to goals. Thatās the moments when you could see that there was still a lot of quality on the pitch, also with a lot of first-team players left out. I for one will retain this from the game. The rest is totally anecdotal.
Your opinion is your own. Keep it that way. Donāt start projecting it on to match going fans who clearly disagree with you, and dead managers who canāt now tell us what they really think.
It isnāt fair on the travelling fansā¦The travelling fans donāt appear to have given a shit, mate. Shankly wouldnāt have stood for itā¦.Really? He appears to have stood for it in the sixties when he was actually the manager.
Iāll stand by my point. Anyone accusing the team and the coach of a lack of professionalism or disrespect doesnāt know what they are talking about. Slot is thinking about next season. He wants the team to be as competitive as possible and cannot turn down the opportunity to rest his players or reduce the workload or even let them have some time bonding as a team. Chasing 90 points for the sole reason that people on the internet might banter other people on the internet about it is not the kind of āprofessionalismā I want in the Manager.
(By the way, I know itās the kind of subtlety that usually eludes you, but I was saying it the talk that can fuck off, not the people saying it)
Nice one , little dig about what your opinion of subltey that eludes me, again thats your opinion so maybe take your advice and remember your opinion is your own. Keep it that way.
