Post match: Chelsea v Liverpool (EPL 2/1/22 4.30pm)

It’s not a fluke in that he was trying to do something different and it spun into the goal. It’s a fluke in that he tries that 100 times and 99 of them if flies in the stand.

I don’t think they had a look at the forearm smash on Kostas. They had a look at the kick out, but not the incident that leaves our lad on the deck.

He was trying to do something different? Like what? Was he trying to take one of the away fan’s head off?

He hit it exactly how he was intending to hit it and it went where he’d hoped it would go.

I do sometimes think that there are a lot of fans who find the ability to do something pretty good barely believable.

How shit must they have been at football?

I dont think that has anything to do with it, it’s more about encountering people who were actually proficient technically. I was incredibly shit at football but had 2 brothers and a host of friends who were technically proficient. I also love analysing stuff to the nth degree.

I score that goal 1 in 100. Maybe slightly more often.

A professional footballer probably scores that in training at least 1 in 10.

In a match, maybe 1 in 20.

Kovacic hit it how he meant to hit and it went where he meant it to go…more or less.

Do you want to try again with that one? You might have slightly misunderstood what I was saying.

It’s shoot down the LFC players now…TAA and Robbo…now rubbish…shitty player better…Hendo…rubbish…now classed as too old…geez how the time turns…I think its turn on LFC week…oh and Sadio accidentally clonked Azpi with his wrist…so Nostra…gets ya facts right…that’s my Monday moan…cheers…

Thing is if you are giving a red for that then Mane’s is a red also.

Mane has a habit of swinging his elbows, he’d do well for a few games to cut it out as his card is marked, rightly or wrongly.

I dont think we did “get away with one” On balance they looked the better side for most of the game, yet their goalie was still arguably their best player. For as well as Kelleher played, Mendy made just as many big stops.

What?
So for you a running forearm smash off the ball is equivalent to going up for a ball in the air and touching the other players cheek with you wrist?
I have no other words. :astonished:

@Draexnael you started! :rofl:

It’s another example of the way that seemingly sensible rules around VAR’s use can still result in dumb outcomes. I don’t think either of the things he did amounted to a red card, certainly not in a game in which Mane had just got away with only a yellow. But there were 2 incidents stacked on top of each other, one reckless or possibly even premeditated, and one violent and petulant. In totality could very easily have amounted to a red, but the ref didnt even give a foul. That means for VAR to intervene it can only do so for serious foul play, or a straight red. That’s why it appeared to be focusing on the kick out rather than the charge/forearm because depending on what the pictures showed that was likely easier to to defend as a red.

It is staggering that he gets away there without even a yellow, but VAR will not intervene for just yellows.

Is that the counter-argument to the numerous dodgy calls myself and others have listed on here? If so I’m not really convinced.

That’s just Scottish Rules football. If you have ever seen the lower divisions of the Scottish League you will realise that Robbo is a pussy cat.

I suspect that our players get briefed to stay up quickly when they can. I’d love to hear Klopp’s stance on this.

No just to emphasise (once again) that if you went onto any team’s forum you’d find posters stating that all the refs are bent, all the media is against them etc etc.

There’s plenty of evidence of referee incompetence but none of corruption. I get we all have some rose tinted specs, but it’ tiring seeing it in every thread here.

Yesterday a great example. Mane could easily have seen red. It wasn’t blatant but everyone here would be shouting for it if it was the other way round. Mount’s was never a red. No idea how this is still being argued this morning.

The standard of refereeing is shocking for the best league in the world. Think we can agree on that
