Post Match: Chelsea v Liverpool (EPL 20/9/20 4.30pm)

Cracking win. Enjoyed it. Pub was as full as could be in a Covid restriction environment. Also, finally got our Carlsberg commemorative cans–which will be happily stored until the next PL Championship commemorative cans come out next year. :grinning:

Did I watch a different match? I thought that Gini and Baby did pretty well in the match.

I’m with you - thought they were both solid and influential among a long list of players who showed their class.

And what’s this worst possible time when we controlled and won the game?!

big win, on to the next

An assist for him then

To be fair to Kepa, costly mistakes aside (first one, see Ederson), he had a good game as a shot stopper. That is his strength. Problem is when you ask him to make decisions outside his comfort zone. Like rushing out, like passing it short. He is an expensive version of Mignolet or De Gea. It is up to his manager to play to Kepa strengths, or accept that there would be errors if Kepa is asked to do things he isn’t so good at.

And I lay the blame on Lampard for this. Glad our keeper is better and is able to pick up after a mistake.

Seeing the report on Gini and Keita makes me wonder what Naby has to do to please some people. I thought he had a good hour on Sunday, and was unlucky to make way for Milner. He is the ideal link for a short pass from Thiago and if they develop an understanding they will offer a different approach against bus parkers.

Genuinely concerning that he gets so much negativity

Aye. And don’t think performance is an issue why he gets subbed every game, which some people are so happy to point out - “Look Klopp also thinks he sucked, Ha!” Think we are managing his game time cautiously knowing his injury history, a luxury we have given our midfield strength.

Naby always gets an hour. I can’t understand why anyone would think it’s a performance issue. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him get past 70mins

Except the friendly against Blackpool.

On the other hand Millie had to come on for Keita or Wijnaldum to add the cover they weren’t giving. Our control of the match went up a good few notches when Millie came on. It also highlights the work Hendo was doing before.

Or in other words, if you are trying to control a game at 2-0, it makes sense to sacrifice your most attacking midfielder for your most defensive bench option. Especially if he’s flagging and rarely gets past 60mins. Very little to do with performance.

It’s not that I thought that we didn’t play well. We had them completely in check, and that’s no mean feat at their home. I just thought that our attacking game wasn’t exactly sharp and that we didn’t have a lot of clear chances. It was a very tactical game, and quite dull to watch imo.

On the other hand, the move which lead to Kristensen’s dismissal was magnificent, and preluding the second half, during which our lads were excellent.

Wasn’t it great to go to the shed and beat them and not have to listen to them singing about Stevie.

He may become one in 7-8 years. But yeah.

Extremely limited evidence for sure, but is there a case to be made that Fab + Virgil is our best CB pairing? :zipper_mouth_face:
